I went for an ultrasound today to check on the babies. I am 26wks 3days. Baby A measured 2lbs 2oz and Baby B measured 2lbs 9ozs. The tech said they fell at 19.1% which the cutoff is anything over 20%. She said it is likely the obgyn will want me to come in to have another scan in two weeks instead of four. I don't see how 7ozs is that big of difference. There is bound to be some difference in size. I am not really worried about it at this point but am just curious if anyone else had this how big of a difference there was between your babies.

^_^ My peri said NO JOKE here people that the babies could be several pounds different and that is normal, considering any one baby could be 9lbs and another baby 7 lbs (singletons) prolly cause ours are di/di but she did mention the 20% rule of thumb

If your twins are di-di, there's really no big deal. If they share a placenta, you're still likely to be OK, but weight differences are something to keep a close eye on. Your docs will want to make sure that if there are any TTTS symptoms, they're caught early.

They are di/di...I think. If I can remember clearly. They have their own placentas and sacks.

Great! Then you can chalk any difference up to genetics, and maybe to measurement error. It's worth checking, but so long as each twin has his or her own growth curve, everything should be good.

BTW - My Baby B was always smaller. Can't remember by how much, but it was right around 19% all through. Born at 6.11 and 5.12 = nearly 20%, but both perfectly healthy.

My babies had a 21% size difference at the last scan, which was actually an improvement over the last two scans. They are continuing to monitor me pretty closely, but fortunately my babies show no other indicators of TTTS and continue to grow steadily and seem healthy otherwise. Mine are also mono/di, but if yours are di/di then you don't need to worry about TTTS. I don't think you have much to worry about. Try to look at the extra monitoring and scans as a positive thing. They'll be keeping a closer eye on your babies and you'll be able to see them more often.

Thanks ladies. I am not really that worried since they have their own sacks/placenta. But it's nice hearing everyone else's stories and getting the reassurance. I keep thinking there has to be some difference in size. They cannot be exactly the same. I don't mind the extra monitoring either. It's fun to see them up on the u/s. Yesterday's appointment was so much fun. The babies seemed like they were goofing around in there. I just don't want my overly cautious doctor to stick me on bedrest because of it! I see him in a couple weeks so I will see what he says then.
