My 7 month old twins are in a nice rhythm right now w/ eating their solids. But-their ounces per day in formula is creeping up. I don't know how to advance how much they eat, and when, and with what types of foods. I am scared of "real" food, I think they will choke on anything. They don't really get the puffs thing yet, make faces, gag, etc, but would like to add more solid to the day, if that makes sense. Here is our eating schedule:

    600:8oz bottle
    900: 5-6 oz formula, 1 4oz veggie, 3tablespoons oatmeal
    1200: 7 oz bottle
    300: 5-6 oz formula, 1 4oz fruit
    6630: 8oz bottle.

We throw a little water in and a few puffs throughout the day, for variety, but looking for suggestions. Do I add a 3rd meal? They seem pretty full after their two solid feedings, so hate to add more to those meals.

    Thanks for any advice!

    This is our feeding schedule:

    6.30am 7 oz bottle each

    8.50am 1 container gerber/earth's best (3.5oz or 4 oz)
fruit with either oat or mixed grains, each

    nap time

    10.30am 6oz bottle each

    11.50am 2oz turkey/chicken each
    2oz veggie each
2oz fruit or gerber yoghurt each
    juice

    long nap

    2.30pm 6oz bottle each

4.50pm cereal (I warm up 3.5oz water and mix in the rice/oatmeal cereal.
I usually make it thinner, like the consistency of baby food)
1 jar of veggie or fruit (4oz) - they share this
juice, some gerber puffs or teething cookie

    6.30pm 6-7oz bottle

And sometimes they drink even less formula. Now we avarage at like 22 oz a day.

I always gave them as much food as they wanted to eat. If they kept opening their mouths I gave them more food. If they started to play around, turning their heads, I stopped.

Hmm...I'm not sure if I understand... It seems like you are in a good rhythm now with feeding-more than I ever was! I was flying by the seat of my pants! Are they acting hungry? The formula is still the main source of food for them. Solids are more practice. I didn't start real table foods until 9 months old with the boys and Annabella. I started first with the Gerber puffs, maybe around 8.5 months, and then worked my way up that way. I also never measured out their food-I opened a jar, made up some cereal, and fed that way. Some days they ate everything and wanted more, other days they barely touched anything!

You could start yogurt if you were looking to possibly do a snack vs meal. If you think they are really hungry, you could try the third meal. At nine months is when I added the third meal as well. I'm not sure if I am any help-but just giving you a different scenario!

I was much like Meaghan at that age. We didn't start giving some table foods until around 9 months, added the third meal around the same time. At 7 months they should be getting most all of their nutrition from formula or breastmilk. I think your schedule looks great. I would start giving a few bits of finger food at mealtime, if you aren't already. Tiny pieces of fruit or cooked veggies, let them play with that & get used to the textures in preparation for moving on to chunkier food in another month or two.

No, I was just looking for new things to try with the kids that, at 7 months, would be new and appropriate for them to try to eat, other than oatmeal and gerber foods. I will try tiny veggies/fruit for them to play with, see how that goes. I am just always worrying I am behind the curve, or not challenging them enough, and they will eat pureed food forever :)

Nope-you are doing great! And trust me-they won't eat pureed foods forever! Once my crew had a taste of real food-pureed food was over! You are doing perfectly fine! You can do mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, maybe some meatballs-really soft foods for them.
