SInce yesterday my stomach has been tightening like crazy once an hour or so making it look like I have 2 large lumps in my belly. Not painful just really uncomfortable for about 30 seconds. In our prenatal class they told us with twins it's hard to decide whether it's just them moving around or Braxton Hicks. BUT I've been reading and it sounds like that's what's happening?

Since lots of you have more experience :) , is that's what's happening or are they just being super active and making mom uncomfortable? lol

And should I be worried or since they go away after lying down and stuff is it normal like what I've read?

Thanks in advance! Sorry this question has been beaten to death. :p

Thats what it sounds like. A BH is a tightening of the belly, very tight like you could bounce a quarter off of it and it lasts about 20 secs or so. They are uncomfortable at times but not painful (usually) I have lately been having some painful ones but they arent changing my cervix at all, still high firm closed and long. They will get stronger close to the end though. Sometime sthey go away if you drink a good bit of water and lay on your side. I get them laying down now too though. Some OBs want you to call them if you get more than 4 or 6 in an hour. Sometimes they can change your cervix. When my girls move around they can trigger a BH too or sometimes if I stand up or if Im doing too much I get them.

I agree with pp. I get the same belly that you described and more likely BH - I have been having them since 20 weeks, but now they are a couple times an hour, but I have no cervix change or effacement as of last Monday. Drinking water helped me a lot at the beginning, but now it doesn't do much. Also as pp mentioned, call your Dr if you have more than 4 an hour - could be sign of preterm labor.

    Hi,
Well I am the tale of caution. I started having BH around 23 weeks. I wasn't worried because everyone (friends, coworkers) said they were normal. I called for an appt. with my MFM and my cervix had dropped drastically. I was on strict BR the rest of the pregnancy. In general terms, twin pregnancies are higher risk. I think it's always better to get things checked out. If I had waited much longer, I would have delivered very very early.

    Thanks guys! :friends:

Drinking water and laying down seems to help out a lot. I have my 32 week appointments monday with my OB and specialist. I will definitely bring it up with them while I'm in, not to mention a few other concerns I'm having. I haven't really had a cervix check so maybe they will this time around specially with these contractions happening.

Thanks for the advice and info, I am sure now that it's contractions of some sort so I guess we'll be keeping a close eye on it! :)
