I agree Kim, I think the post 9-11 illness storyline is a great one, especially for Sean. I am totally loving Franco this season...the talk white sequence was hysterical. I did feel bad for Tommy in the end, thinking something went down between Franco and Janet.

    Really great episode this week!!

Yes it was. A very dark episode too. I'm afraid to say anything more not to spoil it for others who did not see it...but I could not believe the lengths that Teddy and Mickey would go to stop Tommy from drinking.

I was thinking the same thing! Why wasn't he trying to figure out what was wrong with Lou and yell to the others for help? :umm:

I was :rotflmbo: at Franco trying to be "white".

Agreed! DH and I watched it last night. WOW. I had goosebumps and a lump in my throat as they were trying to find Colleen. I am SO glad nothing happened to her.

Janet needs to write Tommy off. After this last episode of the flipouts when drinking, she needs to be DONE with him. I don't blame Franco for going ape sh-- on him!!

And why oh WHY did Mickey and Teddy do that to the whiskey. :umm: I mean, I understand why but WOW.

My heart was in my throat watching last week's episode. :woah: Do you think he will quit? WHY would he do that to Colleen in a church?

Hey Kim, do you know if he writes it, or helps write it? Whoever DOES write it, has a pretty twisted mind. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying their twisted mind but man oh man..... :faint:

Denis Leary and Peter Tolan are the creators and head writers on the show. :good:

I'm liking this season  . I don't know why Janet has stayed with Tommy so long either. I'd be way over that marriage by now. He's such a wreck. I hope the death of that girl tonight is what he needs to get sober for good. Although that whole Gavin family is twisted! I don't think there's much hope....

Oh boy, Tommy and Janet!!! :D That scene where the young man, Connor's friend, comes up to them in the restaurant and the following scenes, wow. And I love the Tony Bennett playing in the background. Wonder how this will all play out?

Did we already discuss somewhere about Janet being preggers IRL? As I'm goggling to find info (she had a baby girl, Ava Reese) I'm thinking maybe I already knew she was preggers? I just noticed her baby bump for the first time in tonight's episode. Oh good grief, this mommy brain stuff is for the birds.

I'm interested to see where Joey will come in later in the storyline. I have a feeling he will!!

Another great episode. I absolutely love that little whack job, Sheila!! And go, Needles!!

Needles was awesome last night. I really like that character.
As for Sheila...her and Tommy are so dysfunctional together but fun to watch. I wonder why she only goes for Gavin relatives...Tommy and now Mickey?
Loved Franco and Sean's advice to Damian about pick up lines for girls and that Damian's girlfriend saw right through it.

I was on the phone for most of the episode but DH was working anyway so I'll watch again with him. Did what I think happened at the end really happen? And holy cow when all those men were in their towels in the shower. ^_^ I missed what they were saying but they sure looked good!:spiteful:

Did anyone else do the math and realize that no way would Connor have been 17? He died in 2005, and he was what--6 or 7? Maybe we could pretend he was 9? At 17 he'd now be older than Katie. :unknw:

I don't want to comment on this week's, in case someone hasn't seen it.

  14. kingeomer

    kingeomer Well-Known Member TS Moderator

That's been bugging me too! The only thing I can think of is that they'd have to keep recasting Connor's ghost because the actors would keep getting older looking too fast

I don't want to comment too much on this week's either only to say if what I happened at the end is what I think just happened...I said out loud last night, "Aw man!"
Aimee, in the shower, they were talking about Mikey's plan to honor Pat Mahoney...Mikey was thinking of walk or a run, then having a bridge named after him and then Sean walked in, they made fun of his robe and the size of little Sean.

DH and I watched last night and if the ending is what we think, OMG!!

As far as Connor and the math, it's TV, people. (*It's not real!*)

I cannot believe next week is the season finale already which means only one more season left! :(

I know, did this season seem really short or what?

  17. kingeomer

    kingeomer Well-Known Member TS Moderator

I thought I read somewhere they did 10 episodes this season and will do 8 for the final season. I might be mistaken though...but this season did seem really short.

  18. Mama_Kim

Prior to this season starting, I read they had shot 22 episodes which would comprise the final two seasons. :unknw:

Did you see the previews for next week? Sheila is crying, Tommy is somber, they mention losing someone young. Horrible!!!

WHAT?? I didn't realize there was only one more season. OMGOsh, I'm going to miss it!

Yes, the season finale of the entire series is supposed to sort of coincide with the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

  21. kingeomer

    kingeomer Well-Known Member TS Moderator

I hope you are right, that means there are more episodes that I thought :yahoo: This week's Entertainment Weekly has a mini review of the final episode (no spoilers, thankfully) and they give it a really good review.

  22. MichelleL

    MichelleL Well-Known Member

Oh wow. :( This just gave me goosebumps. I can only imagine what sort of finale it's going to be.

This season was way too short. One more episode? I like it just started getting going! Oh man.

Regarding Connor: I did't catch the age faux pas, however what bugs me is that when Tommy "see's" Connor's ghost Connor is way older. When a person dies they don't age, right? Their ghost or spirit appears as the age they were when they passed. I've no personal experience with this, but it's typically shown on TV/movies like that and I think that's probably the way it is in real life. Did I make sense? :headbang:

  24. rubyturquoise

    rubyturquoise Well-Known Member

Yes, but child actors cost more because there are all kinds of limitations on when and how much they can work. Much cheaper to have Connor be older.

eta: You can tell because we mostly only hear about Wyatt, but almost never see him. For the first half of last season I actually wondered if they were hoping we'd all forgotten he even existed, since he was never shown, nor referred to.

    Wyatt is always sleeping.

Anyone watch the finale? What did you think?
I really liked the episode... I was almost in tears for Sheila and Damian...I totally understood Mickey's position on the whole thing but also understand why Sheila would be making the choices she's making. I felt for Tommy, actually trying to be supportive and do the right thing but at the same time, he's neglecting his own family.

  28. MichelleL

    MichelleL Well-Known Member

WOW. I had goosebumps the minute they showed Damian. :( I too see Mickey's point, BUT, it's Sheila's only child and as a mother, wants to do anything she can for him.

I feel so bad for Janet and the girls because they need him now too and he just can't be there for them. What a MESS!!!!

It will be interesting to see how he leaves the final season. Lou dies? Damian recovers or is like that forever? Janet moves on? So many open-ended lines he can toy with. :good:

  29. rubyturquoise

    rubyturquoise Well-Known Member

Damian wasn't wearing his helmet. They'd really have to go for some willful suspension of disbelief for him to recover. :( I think if I were Sheila I would be more interested in his being able to talk/communicate than in his being able to walk. To me wanting him to walk when he can't communicate is weird priorities. However, I do think this is exactly right for the Sheila character--I would expect her to be in denial to the point where she would try anything.

However, she has money. She needs to spend some of that on professional care for Damian, and Tommy needs to say, Look, I love Damian, but my kids need me, too.

I worry about Lou. I like Lou.

I'm not sure mid-pregnancy with a sketchy work history gives Janet a lot of options as far as goes moving on. I was a little surprised about that "healthy pregnancy over 40" brochure, because earlier this season she said she was 45, and Wyatt is what, 2? Wasn't she over 40 then, too? (I know, I know, it's just TV--clearly I missed my calling as a continuity editor, I just can't help noticing these things.)

Yes, I do spend way too much time analyzing this show. :FIFblush:

That's what I was thinking too. What good is walking going to do if he can't communicate? I know this is being nit-picky, but is it realistic that he's in that state but can still eat food and drink?

And he can breathe on his own. I guess it depends on what part of the brain is damaged I guess. I am curious how the final season is going to go...there are so many storylines for them to handle.

I guess I am the only one disappointed in the way this season ended. It seemed so odd and I thought the finale episode was rather lackluster. It did set up some great story lines for the final season though. DH and I both agreed it would have been a better finale the previous week and this finale episode the season opener for next. They sort of divided the 22 episodes for the last two seasons in an odd spot, no?

Totally bizarre how Sheila is so focused on Damian walking when he can't really communicate either. I'm chalking it up to denial.

    And I love it!!

Good point Kim, the previous would definitely would have been a fantastic season closer. I too thought there wasn't enough suspense in the end. It didn't leave us guessing on any big things.

Kim, I can't believe you said that about the episodes! I told my dh the exact same thing. The finale totally felt like a a season opener, especially since it was supposed to be 2 months later. Maybe it really WAS supposed the be the opener of the final season, but they came up short episodes somehow and put it in with this season. LOL

I was disappointed in the finale, too. I agree it was lackluster.
