My babies were born on 4/29/2010 via c-section. William was 5 lbs 7 oz and Samantha was 5 lbs 12 oz. They were "watched" by the NICU initially but have been with us in the room ever since. Both are eating well and are precious to us.

Samantha had brain ventricle issues while in utero and is scheduled for an MRI tomorrow to figure out what if anything is going on. The u/s after she was born was inconclusive. Please keep her in your prayers that nothing major is wrong or needs to be done.

Congratulations on your two beautiful babies! I will send positive vibes to Samantha. My Samantha is the toughest thing going, so maybe it comes with the name. ;)

The MRI came back that she does not have a corpus callosum. The corpus callosum is a structure of the mammalian brain in the longitudinal fissure that connects the left and right cerebral hemispheres. It facilitates communication between the two hemispheres.

What that's going to entail - we don't know. The neurologist/surgeon basically said, he has seen cases where a young person didn't know they didn't have one, until they got injured playing sports and had to have a CT Scan. He also said he's seen things as bad as mental retardation and seizures. His thought is that Sam is "acting" just like a newborn and so we're to treat her as such. But we're also to look for signs that she may be lagging in development. So it's a wait and see kind of approach.

We'll be trying to find out where to go to get the best possible care for her, possibly more information - although I just don't know where that will be yet.

To be honest - I was hoping for a relatively "normal" pregnancy and babies this time. God apparently thinks we're good at what we do, so he gave us Sam the way she is.... my first was born with 3 major birth defects and had open heart surgery at 8 days old and then at 2 1/2. Once things settled down for her, we then found out we were pregnant with a T-18 baby. She died last May after living for 2 days.

So far Sam is acting just like any other newborn so that's how we'll be treating her. Because of my first DD's issues - we have a cardiologist at Childrens that we completely trust and she's given us a name of a neurologist down at Childrens. So hopefully as Sam grows - we'll know more on what path we'll be on with her.

Will, he's such a good baby and loves to snuggle. Not bad for being the 'middle' child :)
