In honor of Mom's Day, and to counter a recent post, I'm just wondering if we can fill up 5 pages on the things we are proud of ourselves for being or doing as a mom, or any personal motherhood accomplishments during the first year (like just making it through - HA!), or any stories about moms who inspire us?!?

I'll start by offering up that what I'm most proud of in these short 8.5 weeks that I've been a mom is that, for the most part, I tend to remain pretty calm when both of mine are going through a fuss fest at the same time. (I've had my breakdown moments, but for the most part I can stay pretty relaxed - yea.) This, in turn, helps my hubby stay relaxed. This is an accomplishment for me bc outside of motherhood, I lean towards being a pretty impatient person.

As for the moms who inspire me, I want to give thanks to ALMOST everyone on this site! It has truly been a Godsend for me. Even though I am 35, I don't have many friends with children and both my husband and I are only children. I am truly thankful for and impressed with the knowledge of the women on this site, and for the honesty, thoughtfulness, and wit of the posters. If you only knew how often I talk about Twinstuff!!

Great thread teamturner! I have to say that my favourite moments happen when all five of my kids are happy at the same time. Last Sunday we had friends turn up unexpectedly and were shocked to find our two older kids laughing while they played board games, our middle child sharing a book with Dad and the twins sunbathing and practicing their smiles. They expected chaos with 8 week old twins. It really made my heart swell. We won't mention what it was like an hour later!!! Love all my kids to bits. It is a joy to be their mother and I live to experience these moments.

    Awesome thread teamturner!
My kids are out of the FY...but I will say my accomplishment as a mother during the FY was actually doing it and surviving it! When the babies first came home, I felt like I was totally snowed under and I can remember calling my Mom in hysterics saying, "I think I am going to have to sign custody of at least one baby to you because I suck at this." She told me I did not suck and that all Moms feel that way from time to time. I am proud that I am a more confident mother (most of the time!)...or maybe just a lot more confident then I was in late December 07-Jan 08!
The most inspiring mother is my own, she survived a lot of adversity from childhood to adulthood and managed to still come out of it all not jaded but gracious and with a heart full of love. She is the strongest person I know and I am thankful everyday that she is my Mom.

I think my biggest personal accomplishment the first year was managing to diet and exercise and lose 50 pounds while taking care of twinfants!

I am proud that I have survived 6 months so far with twins... when they were born I didn't even know how to change a diaper, make a bottle, give an infant a bath, get a baby to sleep at night or nap, how to fold up a double stroller, how to carry 2 babies, how to install a car seat, I could go on and on. I am a pro at all that now... and proud of myself for learning it!

  7. I'm proud that we get out of the house every morning dressed, fed, and in clean diapers (not that those diapers are always clean when I drop them off with my mom!). I'm proud anytime I load my little ladies up and we go to the grocery store without help. And then I'm proud for remembering to unload and pay for all the groceries I've squeezed into that tiny little compartment stuffed under the stroller. I'm proud for smiling sweetly when strangers (or old co-workers) insist that one of my little girls must be a boy since she's not wearing pink and then act bewildered and confused when they ask what his name is, and I tell them Lucy. Or Jane. I'm proud of those nights when my husband or I make dinner instead of giving in to the urge to order take-out (although there are plenty of those nights too!) Wow - it looks like I could go on and on here. I'll save you all my babbling, and just say that I am most proud of the greatest thing I've ever done or made or been responsible for - my girls.

Congratulations, vycki72. I hope to follow your lead! Happy Mother's Day!

That sounds like a blissful Sunday! How wonderful. Happy Mother's Day!

Congratulations on making it through the first year. I'm inspired by what you say about your mom. What an amazing feat to overcome adversity and offer so much love and support to you and others. Happy Mother's Day to you both!

WOOOHOOOOO! That IS amazing. I'm not sure when I'll have the energy to exercise. I barely have the energy to pump! :) Happy Mother's Day!

Congratulations, shelbaz. Your post made me realize that it is QUITE a learning curve, isn't it?!? I didn't know any of that stuff, either. Happy Mother's Day!

I squeeze groceries in the compartment under the double snap and go, too!! And then I never know how to carry the bags out to the car! And we've REALLY been trying to cook, too. Congratulations and Happy Mother's Day!
