I have seen a few posts lately with discussions and questions about cloth diapers, and I just wanted to pass on that this month's issue of Mothering Magazine has a great article about all the different reusable diaper options out there (and there are a lot!). It also has a handy guide to figure out what kind of diaper system would work best for each family (moms who work outside of the home, families on a very tight budget, etc). We already do cloth, but I learned a lot from the article.

There is also an article about EC (elimination communication).

Thanks for sharing this. I want to check out the article on EC. By the way, did you decide to give it a go?

I've been doing it on a very part time basis. Basically all I do is give them some diaper free time once a day or so. When they go I make the cue sound. They seem to really enjoy the diaper free time.

I doubt I will ever give it much more effort than this...at least right now. But according to all the EC stuff I have read this is still beneficial because they get used to going outside their diaper from a young age and avoid the whole issue of becoming "diaper trained," as EC folks say. We shall see.

If it helps down the line great. If not, oh well, they think it's awesome to get to be naked for a while! :D

I know the is about cloth diapering but I just wanted to add that Athan has peed twice in the potty and Claire has pooped once. I hold them over the toilet most mornings when I get them up and hiss in their ear. We only started about 10 days ago.

I have an interest in doing more diaper free time bc my girls love it, too! But, I need to figure out what to put down bc they always pee and poo without their nappy on. I could buy special pads, but I'm trying to be frugal. What do you use?

Congratulations Athan and Claire!!!!! Yea! (I'm such a dork, but I get so excited every time the little ones go on the toilet!!)

    I second that congratulations!

TeamTurner---I use a changing pad mattress on the floor. We wound up with an extra one someone gave us. I can't fit both of them on it at the same time though, so I usually give them diaper-free time one at a time. I set the mattress down on the floor with them on it, and give them some toys, etc. A lot of times they will just lay their kicking their legs and smiling because I think they like the feeling of being diaper free. It's like a game to them. I usually try and do it right after naps because that's when I know they will probably pee.

There have been times when I know they are about to poop and would love to take them to the potty, but it seems that every time I know it's happening I am either feeding their brother or they are in their high chairs getting ready to eat--basically not when I can quickly whisk them away. ha.

That's a great idea! I never would have thought of that.
