is it because i am with him all day long? i go back to work in under a month and can't bear it anymore. i try so hard to get him to smile at me, giggle, etc. his dad walks in, or other people and he smiles at them!

    tell me this is normal?

This is a silly question...have you tried to stand farther away and smile. I noticed that one of my boys seemed to notice faces better at a distance. Anyway....I have noticed that since I went back to work my boys are much more excited to see me than they were when I was with them all day. Maybe they are just so used to you. Have you tried leaving for an hour and coming back. I bet he'd smile then :)

My boys laugh at my husband so much easier than they laugh at me. Dads are just funnier than moms. Have you tried giving zerbers or tickling them. That is 100% effective for me. They like to play games like peekaboo and pattycake.

Maybe he senses that you are often times stressed? Please don't take this the wrong way...but it seems like you worry a LOT about a lot of things :FIFblush: Perhaps he picks up on your worrying and it causes him not to relax sometimes? I seem to recall previous posts about whether they should be crawling or sitting up already, and worrying about their ongoing nap issues, etc. And don't get me wrong, I think every parent has moments of doubt at times as to whether their child is developing normally and if they are happy. But sometimes you need to try and not sweat the small stuff ;) Given that he will smile at you during peek-a-boo shows that when he senses you are playing and having fun he can have fun too. So maybe just try and be a little goofier with him at times?

I know when my DS first started smiling, I had to copy what my MIL was doing with him to get him to smile at me! She's really good with babies. Maybe look at what other's are doing and try the same thing?
