I am wondering for those of you who have taken or will take medical leave for bedrest before you had your twins, will your employer allow you to take your entire 12 weeks of maternity leave after the babies were born? Any details would be helpful, thanks!

Although I haven't taken any leave yet, I do have a strategy in case I need to leave work or go on bedrest before the babies are born. I have a fair amount of time off saved up 4-6 weeks depending on when the babies actually come. I plan to take any time off for bedrest using that vacation time, just letting them know a week or so at a time as needed. My boss is aware that I'd like to do this. Also, my boss is really flexible and nice and has agreed that if I am on bedrest but feeling ok, that I can take my laptop home and work a few hours from home a day and count that as time worked instead of using up paid vacation time.

Our maternity leave is covered by short-term disability. I had to stop working at 22 weeks and have 16 weeks of medical STD, when I deliver it will then change to 8 weeks of paid maternity STD no matter where I am in the 16 week period. If I went over the 16 weeks I would switch to long-term disability until delivery and then back to maternity STD for 8 weeks. I have no idea how common this is.
