Let me know if there's already a thread or place for this topic...
My 2 year old b/g twins are now potty trainied during the day. At naptime and bedtime they wear Pull-Ups. This week they started wearing underwear at naptimes since they were waking up dry for the most part. After that I guess the next step is nightime training? When do I start that, and how? Do I wait till their Pull-ups are mostly always dry in the morning, or do I wake them at night to go potty? Or should I wait till they're a little older? I don't mind waiting... :)

Hi- I might be wrong but my understanding is you can't really "train" for nighttime, it is a developmental thing that will naturally stop when they are ready? I think I read this somewhere but someone please correct me if I am wrong.

That's my understanding too. Once your kids wake up dry for several nights in the row, then they're night time potty trained (or close)! And there's nothing really to do to speed it up. I'm not looking forward to this milestone because I know my girls will yell in the middle of the night for assistance going potty.

We just waited for them to be dry in the morning. When they were, I hurried them to the toilet and told them how big they were getting without making a huge deal out of it. They night trained right around their 3rd birthday which was about 6 months after being dry through naptime. I can probably count on my fingers the number of times they've gotten up to pee at night so really it was a matter of their bladders being big enough to hold it until morning. AND, before you think how wonderful it would be to ditch the Pullups, their typical sleep time at night dropped at the same time from 11.5 hours to 10 (sometimes 9.5) and I'm sure that waking to pee is the reason.

I waited until they were always waking up dry in the morning. One of mine potty trained at 2.5, but it took her another 9 months to wake up dry. The other potty trained at 3y4m, but she day and night trained at the same time.

Thanks! I'm glad I asked! I'll wait till they stay dry overnight, and will enjoy my uninterrupted sleep in the meantime. :)
