Ok so my mom was researching homeade baby food and starting finding all these topics related to preemies and food allergies, nitrate levels in food given to babies before 6 months, eczema reactions....and so on...
My girls are 6 1/2 months (5 months, 1 week adjusted) and we have been doing cereal for a couple months now. This month I introduced the beginner veggie/fruit foods. My one daughter is finally starting to like the veggies and is doing just fine.

My waker-upper-in-the night, spitter-upper, cranky, has to use gentlease formula,eczema-suffering,
(AKA Quinn) loves, loves all food! But she is now spitting up the sweet potato with the formula.

    She gets a 4X 6oz bottle a day.
Morning cereal (2tbsp)an hour after bottle
afternoon maybe 1-2 tbsp veggie (some days this doesn't happen)
evening cereal 2tbsp--if no veggies given in afternoon I may add it 1/2 cereal/veggie

-Could the veggies be making the spitting up worse??
    -When will this ever stop!!!!??
-Also I am wondering if her increased activity is causing issues, wanting to stand, bending putting toes in mouth.
-Anyone notice eczema being worse with certain foods?? My husband and I both have it, so not crazy that she does???
-Should I be worried about the nitrates, considering they are 6 1/2 months, yet adj age not quite 6???

I think I'd puke if I put my toe in my mouth :rotflmbo:

First, tell your Mom to stay away from Google. Nothing good EVER comes from it.

    1. If she has a food allergy, I would think that the spitting would get worse if she is reacting to something she is eating.
    2. There are some food allergies that can be outgrown.
    3. For us, the increased activity definitely caused some increase in spit up and then it got better once their digestive systems matured.
    4. One of mine had mild eczema that was not pretty. But once we got him on a hypoallergenic formula, it went away and really never returned.
    5. I dont know about this one. I would ask your Ped.

Have you asked your Ped about food allergies since they run high for your DD since both you and your DH have them? I am wondering if they would want her or both of your babies to eventually test for food allergies at some point.

I second the stay away from Google idea.

Sorry I don't have any advice. No allergies here so far...

I know, I did some googling of my own and found what she was talking about. Overall I think I feel fine about how things are going. Normally my Mom isn't worried about stuff, but I think because Quinn was the smaller one and has had all the issues, we tend to look for reasons for things.

I think she is just has a cranky disposition and is sensitive to things :) But you just don't want to miss the obvious, ya know. This whole spitting up thing is getting a bit old, sooooo tired of rinsing out clothes and having 5 outfit changes a day!!!!! And now its multi-coloured. blah.

Hopefully I can help!! Kyra (my 8yo) has some food allergies, what happened to her (she was 9mo and my DAD gave her a piece of toast w PB on it) she broke out in hives on the area that she had pb and vomited. The reaction is immediate! We're now testing her for a banana allergy since she says her mouth gets itchy when she eats bananas :( I'd put a little of whatever you're worried about on a clear part of her skin and see if she gets a rash. Also watch for diarrhea (sp) The boys both have eczema and are sensitive to oatmeal cereal they get the poops. They spit up, but awhile after they eat so I'm not worried about other foods.

We have family history of allergies and are avoiding any highly allergenic foods (eggs, nuts, etc.) until age 1. Also, when I try a new food or medicine, I do it when DH is home so if we do have a problem, one of us can stay home with the twin who is not sick while the other one heads to the hospital.

I also agree with everything Rachel said. As for nitrates, I try to stay away from them as much as possible for the whole family since they are really not healthy for anyone. The extra moving around can definitely cause the spitting up to increase. No eczema here, but if you are at all concerned about food allergies I would talk to your doctor & see what he/she recommends.
