Camdyn has started this new thing lately. She will want her cup and then take the drink into her mouth and then lean forward and let it run out. She will then play in it. She does this all over the carpet, couch or booster seat tray. I thought at first she didn't like the juice but she does it with everything. I stopped letting her drink anywhere but her high chair since she was getting it all over everything. She has also started to spit on the floor. I don't know where she got this from. Should I be worried and how do I get her to stop? TIA.

Wow, you're lucky that she's just now starting this! :escape: My girls started this at 12 months and seem to think it's funny. When they spit, I take the drink away and that's it. Tantrums ensue, but they get over it. Hasn't happened in a few weeks now. It's a mess and we were changing tops several times a day. Hang in there. Take the juice away when it happens and maybe she'll learn that spitting = no juice.

Wow, we were dealing with the throwing all the food on the floor at that time (still are). I think that kept her occupied. She usually loves her drinks more than anything else but hasn't seemed to mind when I take it away. Hopefully she will get it soon and her brother won't pick up the habit . Thank you for the advice and the hope that it will end :drown:.

We went through a phase like that as well. Thankfully it didn't last long here. I think taking it away and ignoring the behavior is the best thing you can do. GL!

Both my boys did this for awhile and it started around 14 months. That was the main reason I stopped giving them any liquid besides water outside of their high chairs. There would be many times I would give them their sippies in the car and by the time we got to where we were going their shirts would be soaked.

At almost 2, I would take away their cups and say "no spitting". My one son will still take his water and do this every now and then and as soon I realize what he's doing, the cup gets taken away.

Yeah, my guys do this too. <_< It's gotten a bit better lately, but Jack will still do this with milk occasionally, and it seems like they ALWAYS do this with water. They love to drink out of open cups, and are really good at it, but will let the water pour back out of their mouths all over their shirts and the floor. :gah: They come up to me with a cup asking for water, and I will give them a little bit, but if they don't drink it, I take the cup away. I'm hoping this "phase" is almost over too!

One of my boys does this too. Doesn't matter the type of liquid; just takes a drink and than lets it bubble over his lips and run out. I immediately take the cup away and explain that we drink our "milk" and than let him throw his tantrum. Oh, the things they come up with. Hopefully your LO catches on quick that it's not acceptable!

Michael did this a few times last week. I started by taking the cup away and saying "no spitting, cups are for drinking." But then he spit in my face and got his first time out and he hasn't done it since. I'm hoping it was just a short phase, but I'm sure he or his brother will try it again.

Benny has just started doing this. I've been taking it away and not giving him any reaction. The first time he did it I told him "No, no! We don't spit." He thought it was hilarious. <_< He's been spitting, then looking at me for a reaction. It's dropped off a lot since I've stopped reacting to it. Less than once a day now.

LOL!!! :rotflmbo: I have to laugh because mine are doing this too, especially my little man. They really do come up with the funniest, most annoying things to entertain themselves and drive us NUTS! They think it's funny and it is, except that you end up with soaked clothing and a mess in the car or wherever you are. I just take the cup away and TRY not to react. It really is annoying, but I did crazy things as a kid too just to see what would happen. Gotta love the little monsters!

Mine do it too. Just started in the last month ( at 20 months old). I take away whatever they are drinking. Although this weekend, my DD started spitting while we were in a store at the mall and she wasn't drinking anything. her sister started laughing and doing the same thing. We separated them, told them no and then ignored it. When they saw they were getting no reaction they stopped. But I would definitely take the drink away.
