DH and Positive Discipline

Hi All:

We have 4 year old b/g twins. I work FT and my DH is a SAH Dad. DH is really struggling with discipline right now and I could really use some suggestions for how to help him.

DH seems to be too lenient, then loses his temper once things get out of hand. (See my post about 4 year old antics!)

I have good books on positive discipline, but DH won't read them (he is not a book reader.) Last year (when they were 3) we both took a short 5 week course on positive discipline, but the lessons didn't stick with him. As you can probably tell, I'm frustrated with him and with the situation, since it spills over into the twin's behavior when I do get to spend time with them.

He needs (really needs) to "get comfortable" with setting limits and giving consequences. I could use your suggestions about how to help him (and me) and the kids, as I just know this issue is not going to resolve itself or "get better" as they grow older.

Any suggestions are welcome!

What types of problems is he having?

I have a good synopsis of 1-2-3 Magic that I could email you if you are interested -- sorry, no idea how to post a doc. It is a quick read, but quite thorough and has worked wonders with my 4-yr olds. Have you all talked about the need to set limits and use of natural consequences? The kids are testing him and pushing the limits. I honestly believe kids thrive when reasonable limits and expectations are set.

Turns out 1-2-3 Magic has a DVD :clapping: and that our local library has it (although we are on the wait list.)

But, I do think the DVD format will be one that DH will use (as opposed to a book)

And, most importantly, DH has decided that he wants to become good at setting appropriate limits.
