Hey ladies. So I just happened to take a peek down at my piggies because my feet were feeling tight and I noticed my toes were swollen. So I pulled up the legs of my jeans and sure enough my feet are HUGE! They were not like this an hour ago. I've called my doc and am waiting on the nurse to call me back. I already have high BP and take meds....should I be worried about this being pre-e? I did have pre-e with my previous singleton pregnancy. Is there anything I can do while I wait on them to call back? Right now I'm sitting with my feet up and drinking some water.

    Thanks!

I don't have any advice on pre e, but it sounds like you're doing all you can. Good luck and keep us posted!

Seems like you are doing everything you can until they give you a call back. Drink lots of water (like more than you can imagine consuming) and keep your feet elevated. You said that you already have high blood pressure so that might not be a good indication, but that was one indication that something wasn't right and is what sent me to the hospital - I checked my blood pressure at Publix and it was high so I was told to go to triage. Some other things I had going on was floaters out of the corners of my eyes and seeing spots, and a bad headache that I couldn't shake which is what prompted me to take my blood pressure. I don't know how those things apply if you are on blood pressure medicine and that is under control. Hopefully you have talked to someone at this point, but if you are worried it can't hurt to go to L&D and get it checked out. That being said, I had majorly swollen feet and legs from about 30 weeks to 34 weeks and they weren't concerned until my blood pressure got too high. Good luck and keep us posted!

Well I did wind up having to go in and get everything checked. My blood pressure was wonderful (of course) and there wasn't even a trace of protein in my urine. Which is all really great...except the nurses at triage were kind of snippy because they kind of treated me like they couldn't figure out why I was there. I only went because my doc told me to! It's not like I enjoy spending time at the hospital when I could be home with my family relaxing. Bah.

They offered me no advice on what to do to maintain the swelling. So I guess I'll just check in with my doctor when I see her Thursday. Bleh.

My feet and toes have been swelling for the last 2 weeks and seem to be getting a little worse every day. So far my blood pressure has been okay though.

Had 2 appointments yesterday and know the feeling of being told different things! At the first, the nurse didn't like the look of my feet, nut at the second the doc, said that as my blood pressure was ok, that it was fine!?

I drink lots of water, but have been trying to drink even more and trying to keep my feet up. I find that as soon as I walk around though, they swell up again.

I never had this with my 2 singletons so am assuming that it's normal to a certain extent due to the added pressures of carrying 2 babies on the body ?

I never had swollen feet with my singleton, but HOLY COW were they swollen with my twins. My legs looked like tree trunks & my poor feet were huge. I had 2 pairs of shoes that I could fit my feet into (one being flip flops which left deep indentations into the tops of my feet.) My swelling went down immediately after delivery- I remember being in my hospital room after the girls were born looking at my "anorexic" ankles.

You have shoes you can fit into? I amdown to 1 pair of plain thongs (flipflops) that don't go with anything lol!

My poor toes look like little sausages and can hardly bend them!

I'm the same way. Which really isn't too awful considering I live in flip flops. My DH thinks I'm nuts because I'll even wear them in the winter. However....I'm also in the same situation as the PP where my feet are so swollen that the straps on them leave deep indentations in the tops of my feet. It's gross. Does anyone know if massage helps push the fluid out? I thought about going to get a pedicure today (my feet are in SERIOUS need of some attention since I can't REACH them anymore).

Ugh. I had awful swelling too. Just wait until it reaches up above your knees. I had to wear black Crocs with my professional dress clothes to work the last month before I was put on bed rest.

What helped my swelling the most was tons of fluids and bed rest. It took a few days of lounging around the house on the left side for the swelling to go down considerably, but it did. When I would elevate my feet above my heart for a few hours every evening, the swelling would lessen some, but come right back as soon as my feet hit the floor (whether sitting or standing). I've also heard that compression hose work wonders if you put them on first thing in the morning when the swelling is at its minimum. But of course, then you can't wear your flip flops so you'd have to go barefoot everywhere. :)

Sorry you were treated that way at the hospital! When I went in I thought they were going to laugh at me and tell me to go home, because I thought everything was pretty normal with a twin pregnancy but lo and behold I ended up being admitted and having the kids the next day. When you talk to your doctor make sure he also looks for "pitting edema" where if you press on your leg or arm that "pit" stays instead of bouncing back and make sure he checks your reflexes. I had hyper-reflexes, and pitting along with the headaches and vision changes but NO protein in my urine and they still thought it was severe enough to deliver. Also, you may want to take a picture of you before pregnancy or at the beginning of pregnancy in so the doctor can tell if your face is puffy or swollen. Some swelling is definitely normal, but like I said I had swelling all along and suddenly it became a danger sign combined with some of the other things going on so just be aware if you put on alot of weight suddenly or have any of the other classic pre-e signs!

I do have that! I've been showing my husband a lot because it grosses him out! :D I see her on Thursday. I'm trying to keep an eye on it and if it gets any worse I'll definitely be calling back. I could not believe the nurses never even looked at my feet or ankles! I was blown away!

Reading all your comments makes me feel like I am reliving my last 6 weeks! My swelling started around 30 weeks and I thought it was just normal at first because they say you can swell in pregnancy. Then I would swell even more to where my feet were huge and the only shoes that would fit are flip flops and the straps like you said would immedietly leave inprints on my feet, I cant even begin to explain to you how big they were. I went to L and D one time for swelling and high BP and I felt the same way they were pretty much like why are you here. BUt then I kept monitoring my BP and swelling and I kept asking about pre-e because I felt like I had the signs of it, but my doc kept saying no bcuae no protein in urine-- then when i went in around 33.5 weeks found protein in my urine and i have pre-e so now im on bed rest. So your swelling could be the start of it, just not having it now, doesnt mean you wont later. But just if you ever feel lightheadeed see spots or headace call the doctor- pre -e is not anything to play around with. But you also very well could just have swelling! Thank goodness i only had a mild case of pre-e so they are containining it with bedrest for the past 3 weeks and delivering my on monday 37 weeks. becuase the only way to cure pre -e is delivering! Hope that you are doing well. I found that when I was swelling alot b4 I had pre-e my dh would massage my feet everynight when i got home from work with lotion for a good while and it would make the swelling go down. also found thay my swelling would be worse if i was sitting(like at my desk at work) also the only way to really get them down is having your feet up above your heart! so get your nightly massages put your feet up! And drink lots of fluids, you would think drinking more water would make you retain it more and swell more but it does the oppistie and helps out! GOOOOD luck!! And hope tha tyou dont develop pre-e!
