I have b/g twins that are 11 months old. My boy has always been a talker, humming and babbling away, but for the last week he has started screaming, or rather screeching, and I can't figure out how to get him to stop. It is not associated with crying or fussing, I think he just realized he has this new loud sound he can make. He does it when he is playing, as well as when he is in his highchair - which is where I really want to put a stop to it. Any suggestions?

Ugh. My friend's baby who is 6 this year did that. I still remember it to this day- I used to call her The Baby Velocoraptor. It's so annoying. I suppose you could say "SHHH! That's too loud" to him, but I don't know if it'll work.

I often refer to Colin's shrill screetch as his Velocoraptor screetch :rotflmbo: However, Colin only really gets animated and excited during diaper changes and occasionally playtime. Brandon on the other hand has been yelling a LOT lately just to yell, so I know what the OP is talking about. It was cute the first few times...now its just frustrating, especially if his brother is still sleeping!

That is exactly what it is! I kept saying it sounded like a dinosaur, lol. I try to tell him "Shhh" or "Not so loud", and it works once in a while. This has been going on for a week now and I am ready for it to stop... especially at the dinner table.

I don't think there's much you can do. He has just discovered that he can be loud... and get a reaction with it!! It's a phase & it will eventually pass. Maybe earplugs would be helpful?!

both of my guys went thru this phase, lasted about a week. i ignored it, no reaction positive or negative and they got bored of it. my friends LO went thru a grunting phase, that was funny!

I second the vote to ignore. If he does it in the highchair as part of "asking" for more food, etc, I would calmly ask him to stop and he will get what he wants when he stops screaming. At this age, they actually understand more than they let on. You might come up with something like "inside voices" or "quiet" so that he can start connecting your quiet, calm voice with the words. You will have to repeat it a few hundred times but eventually he'll figure it out. A key word like that works much better than "no"
