So one of my DDs snores. A lot. I have just recently noticed it, in the past few months. She did it when she was stuffy or sick, but now it's all the time. She doesn't do the apnea stop snoring, stop breathing thing, but I worry that it's disrupting her sleep. Do I tune it out? Ask the doctor? See a sleep specialist? They'll be 4 in May so I was thinking of mentioning it then to the pedi, but should I do something sooner? I can't sleep when she's snoring near me, and I think it bothers her sister too. :( Help!

I've snored since I was a baby. I do have sleep apnea, but I don't think it developed to anything beyond snoring until I was in my 20s. Until then, the snoring never bothered me or interfered with my sleep. I can't say that it never bothered anyone else, but it never gave me any problems.

I would definitely mention it to your pedi. My DD snores, too, and I mentioned it to the pedi and he just told me to be aware of apneas and watch for other symptoms (unusual sleepiness, etc). I'm glad the pedi is aware of it, though. If for no other reason than, if it worsens, he will already have a record that I mentioned it and may take it more seriously. Also, my DD isn't too very loud. Maybe that would add some concern for the pedi and he will order a sleep test.

However, unless she is having apneas, I wouldn't make a special appointment. May isn't that far away and the apneas are really the serious concern with snoring. In the meantime, you might want to try propping the head of her mattress up a little or putting a humidifier in the room.

Leah snored. It was related to her enormous adenoids. She had them removed when her second set of tubes were placed by the ENT. She hasnt snored since. I would talk to your Ped about it.

I was going to say large adenoids as well. When I had to take Jake to the allergist when we found out he's allergic to peanuts, she mentioned that he had large ones. He does not snore...yet, but I notice when he's sleeping, he breathes through his mouth and it would not suprise me if later on he'll snore.

This was our situation as well. No snoring after the adenoids were removed.

So did they have them removed b/c they snored or was there another medical reason to take them out? I know I've heard of them being removed when they do a tonsillectomy or like in Leah's case tubes. But, she's never had any issues with sore/strep throat or ear infections...she's never had one at all. Would they remove them just b/c she snores?

Thank you for all your responses ladies. She came into my bed last night and I had to leave. :( I think I'll put in a call to the pedi just to see what he says.

It really depends on your situation and how much of her nasal passage they are blocking. We had both girls' adenoids removed when their second set of tubes were placed in the hope that it would actually help their ears too. Karina's weren't too bad. Annelise's actually blocked about 60% of her nasal passage, so I suspect hers would have needed to come out eventually anyway, but I don't really know that. I'm not sure we would have opted to have the surgery just for the adenoids, but it depends on the doctor's recommendation. I'd start with a visit to your Ped or ENT and see what they think.
