How do you deal with tantrums ?

I was wondering what is the best way to deal with tantrums and what do you do with them. One of my boys is tantrum- prone already! whenever something does not go as he wishes or if we do not do whatever he cries for! I need some help out here about how to handle his tantrums?

 

Ignore! Ignore! Ignore! That was the only thing I could find that worked with my two. :good: I even found if I left the room it ended even quicker. :blink: They are doing it for attention and once they see they aren't getting it there is no use in rolling around on the floor, now is there? :lol:

 

I couldn't agree more! :good: That is exactly what we do here.

 

Definitely ignore unless his tantrum involves hurting other people (mine like to headbutt whoever is irritating him) in which case I put him somewhere safer or move the offending party if it is his sister and let him have at it. I haven't had a tantrum in public yet so I'm not sure how I'd handle that, but I definitely just ignore him at home. If he follows me around to continue sharing his misery with me, I put him in time out. GL!

 

Ditto! I have one who used to throw all-out full-bodied fits. If I thought she might hurt herself thrashing about, I would put her in the middle of the den floor with nothing around and walk away. The pedi suggested to set up a PNP with nothing in it and put in a boring part of the house to use for that purpose, but it never got that bad. After a few days of ignoring it, she stopped.

 

ignore or laugh make up a song or make them laugh works well here.

 

Same as the others - we usually ignore, but we also have a pack-n-play set up that has been used when they really get out of hand and start thrashing on the hardwoods!

 

I third Liz and Krystyn. I found the less attention I gave, the less they threw a tantrum.
