Hello, I am trying to start giving the boys their food not blended any more but it takes hours for them to chew and finish so I always end up blending it. on the other hand I do not warm up their milk, just give it to them at room temperature, but am not sure if this is good! what do you do?any suggestions??

we give them their milk (um, chocolate milk) straight out of the fridge. same thing goes for their juice, and they drink cold water too. they love it, i think it's refreshing. when the drinks get warm is when they don't get consumed. i have never blended my girls' foods, and they've been using their teeth and eating whole apples (including the peel) from about 18 months, maybe a little sooner.

I stopped warming their formula at 10 months and now they drink everything cold. They don't like purees and have been on table food for months, lately they actually prefer slices and sticks of food to bite now. I have no idea how they mash stuff up with 5 teeth, but they're pretty good at it. The only mushy stuff they eat is oatmeal and yogurt.

Mine have gotten milk straight out of the fridge since 12 months, they drink all of their drinks cold. I stopped the mashed/blended foods around 15 months. I used to use baby food veggies to supplement veggies but they stopped being interested in them around that time.

We're very similar to Nancy. Cold milk at 12 months, supplementing with baby food veggies until they refused to be fed any more (about 16-17 months). Otherwise they've pretty much been on table foods since they turned 1 year. We used to cut the peels off of apples and pears, but we leave them on now. I don't give them "hard" foods like carrots unless they're cooked, but I don't mash them, just cut them into pieces. Other foods I just make sure are cut into small, non-choking-hazard sizes.

Milk is served straight out of the fridge here. I've never warmed it. I never warmed formula either though, it was room temp. I don't mash any of their food. I just cut into small pieces if they can't bite it easily. Things like sandwiches I'll just give them a quarter and they bite it. Mine only like to be able to feed themselves, so they have to be able to pick it up. They will eat yogurt, pudding, oatmeal, etc off of a spoon, but typiclaly they want to do it themselves. They only have two teeth too!! They do quite well mashing the food up with their gums.

No mashed food but we still warm their milk. I'm sure they would drink it cold, just haven't tried it yet. Maybe today is the day.....

We give DS his milk cold (DD is still nursing). We still give them sweet potatoes mashed and they also like applesauce, cottage cheese and yogurt. Other than that, they are completely on finger foods.

I do not specifically mash their food. If its something that is mashed already, so be it. They eat pretty much only table food. I haven't introduced a spoon/fork to them yet simply because I dread that! I do tear up things and put on their highchair tray for them to eat some.

As for the warming milk issue, my girls would look at me like I was stupid if I handed them their sippy with milk before putting it in the microwave. YES, I warm. They are so spoiled in that issue. They are, however, starting to drink juice room temperature. Yes, until a few weeks ago I had to heat their juice!!! :FIFblush:

Milk and all other liquids straight out of the fridge here too. In fact, water and juice are served with ice in their sippy cups because they like to feel like they are drinking like us. I don't and have never really mashed food -they have been on finger foods exclusively really since before they were 1. I do still cut up everything pretty small though - I tear grilled cheeses into pieces, cut up chicken very small, give them cheese slices in quarters, etc.

Never warmed their milk cuz I didn't want to be tied to doing it. Stopped mashing and dicing in tiny pieces around a year?? Now that they are 2, it's MUCH easier to hand them even a whole apple w/ peel on and hit the road! It's great!

Are they still on a bottle or would you warm their milk in a cup?

All liquids are straight from the fridge, we did that when we started them on sippy cups, it took about a week or so for them to drink enough when we switched them cold turkey, but once they were okay with it they now drink plenty of milk each day.

I also don't mash items, I cut them up for them and throw them on the tray, including small pieces of meat or chicken, any veggies we are having...etc. I mashed their roast/potatoes/carrots and peas the other night only because I had it all in gravy and it was faster than trying to cut it all! ;)

When mine started getting cows milk, it was cold from the fridge. We never warmed it.

In the second year I did not mash their food.

I still warm their milk to room temperature. They just don't like it ice cold. I need to break the habit though. They have been on finger foods since 10 months when they refused anything by spoon.
