Last summer I bought the boys some shoes in size 4, figuring they'd use them until winter. Then I got some great deals on boots and winter shoes on eBay in size 5. Well, we have yet to wear any of the size 5 shoes/boots because they're *still* too big, and it's spring!! :gah: Their 4s are getting a little small, but with most of the size 5s they keep tripping and can barely walk. I found a cheap price on some Van's in a size 4.5, hoping that would carry them along until summer when *hopefully* they'll be able to wear a size 5.

When I look at the ages that size 5 are supposed to fit, it says 6-12 months! :shok: My guys are average for height (kind of skinny) and wear clothes appropriate to their age (18-24 months). Do they just have abnormally small feet?? What size are your LOs wearing?

Maybe they take after my brother; his wife and MIL say he has "millionaire feet" because they're so small and delicate-looking.

I found that it really depends on the shoe and I can't really follow the manufacturer's size charts as they seem to be a bit off sometimes. I wouldn't say that they have small feet...sounds normal to me!

My dad and his wife got my kids each a pair of shoes on their first birthday. They got Mackenzie a pair of nike's in size 5-she still definately fits in them and she probably will be able to wear them most if not all of the summer as well (So I think she could still wear a 4). She is on the smaller side though for height/weight.
They got Jack a pair of puma's in size 6-he can still wear them but they are getting a little bit tight...I would guess he might need a new pair mid-summer.
I just ordered them a pair of sandles from Old Navy in size 5, now I realize I will probably need to send them back and get J a 6 or 7 (I just checked his shoes because I thought they were 5's but they are 6's DOH!).

Mine are wearing size 4s right now. DS is average in height and weight. DD is below average in weight and above average in height.

Samantha is on the small side and wearing a size 5. Mallory is in the average range and wearing a size 6.

I will totally throw the average with DS...he wears a 7 1/2 or 8 wide! He is also 90% for height and weight, so that is probably why. DD wears a 5 1/2, so she is a bit closer to average.

My kids have abnormally large feet LOL! I realized then when I had to buy them socks for 3 year olds when they were 18 months. They wore a 5 when they started walking at 8 and 9 months (6-12 months has got to be wrong), and then at 1 we got them 6s. By 16.5 months they wore 7, and now at 21 months they are moving into 8s. What makes it even more odd is that their legs are fairly short. They wear 18-24 month pants, and 24-3T shirts.

I think 5 is a normal size for their age, based on what I've heard from others. I also have no idea about foot growth patterns. My boys will have gone from a 6-8 from the ages of 1-2. I have the impression that's unusual.

Holy cats, your boys do have big feet! :D

What's weird is that my guys have gone from wearing 9 month clothes to 24 month clothes all while staying in size 4 shoes!!! I think this is unusual too! ;) But my boys are very similar to yours in body shape; they wear MUCH smaller pants than tops. They have really long torsos.

I have found that shoe sizes depend on brand here. My kids, according to DH and the IL's have their side of the family feet: big. I would say last summer, they were in size 5 &6 and now at 26 months...DS is in an 8 and DD in a 7. As for clothes, they wear 2T-3T tops and 18-24 months pants...any bigger and the pants just fall off of them. My two have no waist or butt (again DH's side, not mine...they're probably thankful for that!)...so they wear pants that are usually too short. I just think at this age, they are all at an awkward growth spurt.

I was able to get a free home measuring device from Preschoolian.

Guessing shoe size is a headache. I wish it were easier to buy ahead.
We are size 6s here. Height 45-50%, Weight 20% at 18 months.

    Good luck!

My twins have always run small on the shoe size and my dd is by far the smallest of them! She is just over 2 and wears a size 4.5. My ds is a size 5.5 almost 6. But I have small feet so I expect Aly to take after me. I only wear a 5.5 and my 9 year old wears bigger shoes then I do.

At 19 months DS started wearing 6 xw and DD 5 1/2 m. That's Stride Rite size. They stayed the same size from September to January, went up in January again (half a size), and I got them the next size up for this Summer, hoping it will fit. DD is in the 50th percentile for height and DD was always in the 20th (less now).

I've found that half a size makes a big difference though - they can wear half a size up without problem, but if it's a whole size up, they'll trip. But yes it really depends on the manufacturer too, that's why I like Stride Rite as I can have them measured there, and I usually don't buy ahead.

We are in 3's for my little guy and my average guy is in 4's. But does vary a lot depending on brand.

My girls wear 5 1/2 and 6. they are 10% and 35% weight and 75% height respectively. They have grown quickly though because at 1 year they were 3 and 4 and at a year and a half they've grown 2 sizes.

I had the hardest time finding shoes that my dd could walk in because until recently she was in a 3 and 4's would fall off. She can now wear 4 although they are a little big and she is almost 19 months old. DS wears a five. They are both average weight and below average height.

I agree that different brands fit differently. Also, different styles of the same brand fit differently. We do mostly Stride Rite at our house to try to avoid some of the foot and joint issues I have. A 5 in an infant style at Stride Rite fits much different than a 5 in a toddler style. My oldest DS had very slow growing feet up until the past 6-9 mths. He still wore a 4 at 18 mths, but was 75% for height. His feet finally started growing and he is now in a 9.5 at 3 yrs old. However, my twinks have big, fat feet. They are both in 5.5W at 14 mths. I am a little sad because I saved all of the cute shoes I had for DS1 and they haven't been able to wear any of them.

but in some shoes DDK is a 6 wide and DDA is a 6 1/2 regular

My kids were in size 5 at about (IIRC) age 2 or 2.5. They have always had small feet for their age -- at 4.5, they're now in size 7.5 or 8. They are perfectly average for height/weight overall, just have small feet. (We get a lot of barely-worn hand me down shoes from my niece, and she was at least 2 sizes bigger at any given age.)

So, I do buy shoes ahead of time, but I just stockpile them until someone grows into them. And I try not to buy anything season-specific (like sandals or boots) until that season actually comes around.

Words to live by! I'm starting to realize that foot sizes (and growth-rate) do not relate in any way, shape, or form to clothing sizes. I mean, I know that people can have all sorts of shoe sizes and be the same clothing size, but I had no idea a kid could grow 6 inches in height and not need new shoes!

My little girls have TINY feet. They are in a size 2 and that is a tad bit too big. A 2 = 3-6 months and hello, we are 13 months!

The doctor says they are short stature, so there you go! :)

mine are just starting to wear a 6 at almost 22 months. i've also thought their feet were small for their age compared to those charts i've seen online.

My kids have small feet too. The boys at 14mos wear 6-12mos Robeez or size 4s. My 4.5 yr old DD only just now is wearing 8.5. More bang for your buck around here!

Wow, I didn't realize how big my kids' feet were until I read this post. Mine just turned 13 months and one is already in a size 5 and one is in a size 6! They also are in 24 month clothes already and will probably be in 2T before summer ends. Makes me wonder how big these kids would be if I actually had them at full term (they were born 3 months early - born at 2 lbs, 3 oz. & 2 lbs., 15 oz. :) )

Mine are a size 7. Both of them! What I'm amazed about is how they are actually growing out of their socks. Their socks should be fitting a 2 year old! I thought I was just shrinking them somehow, but I put on new socks and they are a little tight too. I'm not sure that makes much sense, but I guess I will have to buy the next size up.

its all genetic! my 14 year old boy is a man size 13 so it has nothing to do with age....all to do with personal growth and DNA
