    Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum. I am 21.3 pg with di/mo twins. I lost momo twins at 21 weeks last year. So this pregnancy is quite a stressful and anxious time for me after the loss we had not so long ago. The babies, however, seem to be doing great!! I am petrified of TTTS but so far no signs at all. One baby has a velamentous cord insertion, but this doesnt seem to have caused any problems so far. Today at my U/S with MFM, they are measuring 22.5 and 22.4 - which is 8 and 9 days ahead!! Whilst I am very happy they are growing so well, I am concerned as I though twins generally measure smaller? They have only been measuring ahead since 20 weeks, before this they were either spot on or a few days behind.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Looking forward to getting to you know all on this fourm during our pregnancies. :)

Welcome and congrats! I'm sorry about your loss, but I'm happy your expecting again... twins do eventually measure smaller ( not all cases) however when they run out of room I think... my twins were always on the big side until about 30 weeks, when theres no space to grow! But they were still born at a healthy 17 inches, so I wouldn't worry... Good luck on your pregnancy!

I am so sorry for your previous loss, I can only imagine how nervous it makes you during this pregnancy! Congratulations on your twins, and I hope it's smooth sailing from here on in.

For what it's worth, my kiddos are measuring huge, like 2 weeks ahead. My previous singleton was 9 lb 14 oz, so I just grow big babies! (I am 5'5" and 135 pre-preg, pretty average.) I've heard of many other women with average to above-average sized twins, I don't think that's a worry. I'm sure they will test you for gestational diabetes soon, anyway.

I think I remember reading that twins grow at about the same rate as singletons until later in the pregnancy, when there's less room. The idea is that they don't know there's someone else in the womb with them - their bodies tell them to grow just as if they were in the womb all by themselves.

I don't know if that helps, but congratulations and good luck!!

I just wanted to ditto the previous poster that said that twins grow at a singleton rate until later on in the pregnancy. I think it wasn't until week 24 that an u/s showed my twins growth falling behind the singleton growth.

Congratulations on your twins! Sorry for your loss last year. If it helps try to remember that statistically speaking, the chances that you WON'T develop TTTS are in your favor. Good luck and keep us posted! :)

Congratulations! I also worried my whole pregnancy about TTTS (we did have issues with IUGR due to a 2 vessel cord) but thankfully we did not have TTTS. You are coming out of the scary period (most cases of TTTS occur before 24 weeks) so that is good news! It's awesome your twins are measuring big. Usually they slow down in growth after 32 weeks. Good luck!!

Thanks ladies for all your encouragement! It's nice to hear the odds are in my favour of not developing TTTS.....when I tell myself that it doesn't seem to sink in as well....lol. Next OB appt. tomorrow, and have felt heaps more movement this week which I am happy with! Will see if they are still growing big!! I guess it is a good thing, as I know they will reach a point where they will slow down....

My babies always measured big from 16 weeks on. I gave birth to 5lb and 6lb babies at 33 weeks. I think the extra weight helped protect them from brain bleeds and some other preemie stuff. They mostly were feeders and growers, except a week on CPAP and two weeks on O2 supplements.
