What time do you Kindergartners go to bed? We currently go to bed at 8pm, but come fall they will need to be in school by 7:25 (their normal wake up time) so I know we will need to make some adjustments.

Yikes that is an early start to the school day Trish. My 9 year old goes to bed at 8:30pm and has ever since she started K. But she also does not start school until 9am. I get her up at 7:30am every morning and we leave the house at 8:30am.

If it were me, I'd probably keep it at 8:00pm. I know with sports and homework, etc. there would be way no my oldest DD could get to bed any earlier then 8pm during the school week. Just my 2 cents.

Bedtime for the big kids on a school night is 7pm here, maybe 7.15 at a push. Naomi and Luke tend to wake up between 6 and 6.30, Alyssa and Bryony are more like 6.30-7. Their school day is 9-3 (they have to be in school by 8.50).

I agree 7.25 is a super early start time. How long will your journey take? Do they finish early too? That would give you more time to fit activities/homework in before an earlier bedtime.

    Holy moly that is early.

    My K's go to bed @ 8pm & are up @ 7am. My 8yr old goes to bed @ 8:30.

My kids don't have to be to school until 8:45 here in UT, so they go to bed around 8-8:30 and are fine. I just looked up some schools in Bakersfield and they start earlier...anywhere from 7:50-8:15. So the boys (and I) will have to work on getting up earlier...and I am NOT a morning person!!!!! :( Especially if we are in an area where they will have to catch a bus!!

I agree about keeping it at 8...especially since towards the beginning and end of the school year when it is still DAYLIGHT at 8pm! It is hard enough to get my kids to go to bed at 8 as it is...I cannot imagine making them go any earlier!!

We try to get the boys to do homework while I am making dinner. If we wait until after dinner they tend to be too tired and it doesn't go well! Grant has 2 pages/night for Kinder (one is the letter of the week [Mon] or word of the week [Tue-Thur] and the other is the # of the week or counting) plus his reading (he gets a library book after the first half of the school year, and he is supposed to read/be read to a total of 20 minutes/night). W&I each have a math page and 2 pages in thier phonics/reading folder. They also need to read 20 minutes/night. Oh and W&I have spelling words each week too (Mon-Thur nights...tests on Fri).

BTW...they are usually up between 7-7:30. They have to walk out the door by 8:25 to get to school by 8:45 when the first bell rings. They could probably leave later, but them tend to dawdle and play around b/c they are 3 boys...so they need the extra time!

Wow, 7:25 is EARLY! I would say trying have them go at 7:30 to see how it works. It may or may not work for them. We did 8 pm bedtime in K also, but our start time was 8:10. Now, in 3rd grade, we are at 8:30, but it seems a bit early, so I'm sure come 4th grade, it will be 9pm.

Elementary schools here start at 7:25 (late bell at 7:45) and ends at 2:45. Luckily it should only take us about 10 min to get to school, but with me not being a morning person it's going to be UGLY.

That is really early! Elementary here starts at 8:45. The little girls go to bed at 8:30, and wake up at 7:30.

I know mine were exhausted after school, especially in the beginning (they were young, though). I had to really push Claire, because she wanted to take a nap (but then would stay up until 11).

Since your kiddos get out so early, they might have trouble making it all the way til 8. I bet you end up at 7'ish, which would be a good amount of sleep for them.

We have to be ready by 7:45 to leave and be ready for the bus. The girls all get up about 6:30 and we start bedtime at 6:45 in hopes of getting showered (if needed), teeth brushed, jammies on, and stories done by 7:30. It's been hard this week with the time change: it's still light out and they have complained it's still daytime. I replied that we don't go to bed with the sun, we go to bed with the clock!

Wow, I think we're lazier than everyone elses family. My older boys don't have to be to school until after 9:00, and my twins have afternoon kindergarten and don't get on the bus until 12:30. Bedtime for all my older boys is 9:00. Next year, when they all have all-day school, we'll have to try and get the twins to bed earlier, but it will not likely be earlier than 8:30.

Bedtime is, and has been for years, 8 p.m., but now they are pushing 8:30 p.m. I&I have to be up at 6:15 a.m., so we can leave the house by 6:50 at the latest. It takes us about 40 min. to get to school, which runs from 7:45 - 2:45, but I need to drop them off by 7:30, in order be ontime for my work.

OUr school starts at 750. We (I) shoot for having them in bed by 730, but I work 3 days so they are at the sitters and do not do homework. So, between dinner, homework books, trying to spend a little time with them, it is usually closer to 8 and one is asleep at 810 the other has more trouble winding down, but that is a whole other post! Honestly, it is tough for me. I feel constantly rushed and running late.

That is early, oh my! When mine were in K they went to bed at 8:00 (still do). They have to be up by 6:15 in order for them to be ready to leave the house by 7:15 so that they are at school on time.

My kindergartener goes to bed between 6 and 6:30. It STINKS! I hate it! But he needs 12 hours to function well and they have to get up at 6:30 am. Just like when they were babies, we have room darkening shades/curtains and white noise to help with going to sleep while life is still going on outside their window. Is it a struggle to have everything done (dinner, homework, baths, etc) for such an early bedtime? YES but sleep is as important as nutrition and exercise to keep the kids healthy and growing well. I make it a priority to get them to bed with the lights out no later than 7.

Only because they don't go to our neighborhood school, but one closer to my work, which is also a better school. And this way I can have lunch with them, if I want to, and volunteer a lot more, which I do several days a week. Now that the girls can read, they get their daily reading done to/from school.

My two go to bed at 8 pm. They are up at 6:15 each morning to eat breakfast and the morning routine. They are at day car by 7 am. The bus takes them to school about 7:30.

Joy's bus picks her up at 7:45am at our house. She naturally wakes up at 6:30 anyway, no matter when we put her to bed. The twins need to leave the house at 7:55 or so, and Joel at 8:15. I always have to wake up the boys, so I do it around 7:00 or so.. Bedtime starts at 6:30-7:00 (depends on bath, etc..) with the goal of getting them in bed by 7:30pm. That way I know they are still getting close to 12 hours of sleep per night. (except Joy who still wakes up at least 2 times per night!!!)

6:30 for kindies. The bus comes at 6:45 so they have to be up at 6. That gives them 11 hours of sleep which I believe is the minimum necessary for kindergarten.

Mine will be picked up by the bus at 7:22 am next year. Right now mine go to sleep by 8, but I think it will have to be 7:30 next year. That's going to be hard though b/c DH doesn't get home until 6 or later most nights and then we sit down to dinner. I'm afraid we'll have to start dinner without him most nights to get to bed on time.

Our kids are fully charged with 10.5 hrs of sleep/night. So knowing what amount of sleep your child needs should dictate when to put them to bed for a certain daily school wake up time.

Our elem school starts late (9.20am) We live 1 mile from school. Their bus picks them up at 8:55am. I LOVE IT! They go to bed between 8.30 and 9pm and wake up at their leisure. (usually around 7.30-7.45am).

With our boy's sports team practices in the evenings, the schedule suits them so well. Since they don't get home until after 4, the later bedtime also gives them time with family & friends.

Wow, that's early! We aim for 8pm bedtime, as Nadia needs to get up at 6:30am. Her school doesn't start until 8am, but we need to leave the house by 7:20am (we carpool with another family, and the traffic is crazy).

Ideally, she'd be getting 11 hours of sleep a night, but she does okay on 10.5, especially because school doesn't start until 9am on Wednesdays, so she gets the extra hour to catch up. She sleeps in on the weekends, too.

I can't fathom bedtime before 8pm, really. Before starting school, my kids were on a 10pm to 10am schedule. :)

My kids go to bed at 8:30 and have to be at school at 7:30. I try to get the girls to go to sleep at a decent hour but they seem to stay up until at leat 9:30 or 10.

My two go to bed at 7/7:30- asleep within the half hour and wake at 6:30/7 that gives then 11-12 hours sleep---which they really need.

Next Fall w/ K starting they will keep the same schedule- bus will pick up at 7:30 am and school starts at 7:45---ends at 11:50 or 2:50 (depending on half or all day).

Mine will be getting up at 5:45 this coming year! The bus runs at 6:15 AM over here. We live so far out in the sticks that we are the first pick up! So bedtime will be 8 and no later around here!

The boys have to be at school a few minutes before 8:00 and they go to bed around 7:30. We wake them up around 6:45 to wake up, eat breakfast, etc.

Now I need to check our school hours! I didn't think about what time the day starts but I know it can vary. We had an the same hours at the school I taught at in Hawaii as yours Trish. The girls go to bed now at 8-8:30 and sometimes chat until 9 or later...I think school will end the chatting lol!

I'd keep bedtime the same and adjust it according to their needs. Good-luck.
