My DS seems to make up his own words for things.....it's weird.

I was standing there calling DD 'Lacey' and he starts helping calling out 'Sha-day' which really doesnt sound much like it. He now calls Lacey Shaday as if it's her name. And she actually replies! He also calls a bottle a 'dodduwey' um.... it started off as a 'doddle' and progressed from there. He tends to add 'ay' to things. His speech isn't too bad really, most of the time I can work out what he wants or what he's saying, but Lacey is a parrot and can say pretty much anything.

Does anyone else have a child that makes up their own words for things?

My DS does. He calls his sister "Gaga" and "Aki" I have no idea where he got either one of them from. And when he's happy he goes "Lubbba Lubbba dee!!!"

I know, I keep meaning to but then the camera is never around at the right time. I think when he can't think of or say the word, he just makes it up. He can say happy but I think happy does not quite cover how he feels so that's when the Lubba Lubbba Dee...comes out

My dd went through a phase like that where she was making up her own words. She did it alot (and it annoyed me  ) but it passed.

Royce runs around the house pulling his short pant legs up to his crotch and yells "Bagoooo bagooooo". I think it's normal. :D

Both of my boys call milk "bonk". It drives me batty, how come they can say "kangaroo", "octopus", etc, but not say milk. They just look at me like I am the crazy one saying the wrong word. This is probably due to their "Garney" saying "bonk" right back to them. Same thing happened with her name. She was supposed to be "Granna", but Cooper kept saying "Garney" so she just changed her name to fit what they were saying. Ok, so maybe my problem is a little different, but I can definitly relate.

Oh yeah, totally! The little headrest pillow on one chair is the "pookie." The belt of DH's bathrobe (which they love to run around with) is the "pap." Throwing objects down the stairs is "boinking" them. Rocking on a certain chair is "feeving." A dish I make with orzo, kale, and tomatoes is "toodee." The really funny part is that they seem to instantly agree on these things. All of a sudden, they're both using the same nonsense word, and I can't even tell who started it.

DS used to call Grandpa Bah-pooh. I used to say boof for please and my brother said ouf instead of thank you (and my mom had a REALLY hard time convincing strangers that we really were saying please and thank you! )

My favorite part is that sometimes those words are infectious. I still call a screwdriver "goosediver" like DS used to and my mom still calls my dad Bah-pooh.

Yeah, they are infectious, Lacey calls a bottle a 'dodduwey' as well....and me too I guess. My 3 yo nephew also says it. Pretty funny. Kohbi also calls a phone a 'Yoey'. he would say yoo like the end of hello, and added the ey as always. Funny thing is when you say 'love you' he says 'yoey'. So that word has 3 meanings!!!
too funny. Lacey says 'Luff you' hahhahah

My oldest started at about that age and let me just say that it hasn't stopped. He has strange names for all the kids, dogs and family members.
I don't remember when he first started but when he was in pre-school (3 years old) he had a teacher named Mrs. Barbara (who is now my bf) and he started calling her Car-bra. ALL the kids called her that for a very long time. Luckily she loved Jon LOL.
He calls the twins "bears", Aly "pickle". He even calls dh Mr. Oaks and me Marge. We try not to answer to it, but it's hard when you've heard it for years. He calls our dog Tim "dumpsters", which is funny since he's a lab and eats anything.
Sorry I could go on and on, it's just soooo Jon and his imagination is awesome. I'm not sure it's normal but it's funny.
He's also a huge story teller so maybe it's a sign of things to come.

My kids still do that, especially when talking to one another. Kinda cute :)
