We got my girls ipod Nano. It was a little more than I wanted to spend but not alot more. I love that they can watch videos on it as well as listen to music. Both of my girls watched Leapfrog math adventrure to the moon (or what ever it is called) this morning as they were getting dressed and before breakfast. This way I got to watch the news without them complaining.
Another reason I went for the nano was all of my music was already in itunes. I could just plug the ipod into the computer and fill it with songs. Any other MP3 player I would have to learn another program and transfer the song. Also one of my girls was stealing DH's old ipod and loved using it.

I had thought about getting them an ipod shuffle, but you can't see what song is playing.

You can also go with the ipod shuffle. Like Lisa said, you can't see what it is playing, but it is a good mp3 player.

You may also want to check the apple website, they often have great deals on their refurbished iPods.

I just spent $29 on one at Target. Ben loves it and it is really easy to use, for him anyways! It was the cheapest one there. Hannah has a refurbished ipod shuffle from the Apple store, but they don't have any left (I spent $38). It is also easy to use, but I like being able to see what song is playing and you can't do that on a shuffle.

Two of my daughters (ages 5 and 7) have something called a Shaker. We got it at Toys R Us I think and it was really inexpensive. It comes with the earpieces but also has a little speaker built into the side of it. My kids use them ALL the TIME!!! The only down side is that the battery runs low fairly quickly, but it just takes a triple A and you're good to go. It's not as fancy as an ipod, but it's great for a kid their age. They have had them for quite a while and we've had no problems.

Just looked it up on Amazon: It's called a SanDisk Sansa Shaker 1 GB MP3 Player. It has it for about $40 but we got ours for much less $20 or under.

We haven't joined the Ipod group yet, but three of us in the house have the Sansa Clip (I think that's what it's called). We just got one for oldest ds for only $21 on the Sansa website. I love mine.

Keep your eye on www.woot.com. They have a different deal every day. They have mp3 players fairly often, for around $25-$40, depending on how many gigs it is.
