At what age did you switch the twins out of their infant car seats? My girls are 7.5 mths old and I am considering it.

I switched mine around 7 months. It got to the point where they were just sooo heavy to carry in those bulky infant seats plus we were planning a long road trip around that time and thought they might be more comfy in the convertible seats for the extended ride.

3 months old! They were too heavy, and too bulky, to carry that way, especially when rounding up 2 older kids. Been in their convertible's ever since! :D

I would say at about 7 months. The infant seats were too heavy to carry and the convertible seats we got are much nicer than the infant seats. I kind of think infant seats are overrated. We hardly got out of the house with the twins in the beginning ... I think we could have done without infant seats.

I'm the oddball... we haven't yet, and ours are 21.5 months... and 22-24 pounds. we're planning on rear facing for a while yet and we haven't outgrown the carriers. And I like being able to put them in the snap & go and buckle them up in the house and stroll them outside to the detatched garage... instead of buckling them in there... so I've procrastinated moving them.

i'm just now looking at what to get b/c I think they are getting to the height limit and I want to be able to get a good price so I don't want to be rushed...

good luck figuring out when is right for you.

We switched at around 14 months. I stopped taking the carrier out of the car long before we switched. I just put them in and out of the car, just like I would with a convertible carseat. Definitely wouldn't have been able to carry them around until 14 months!

My girls are 10 months, both right at 19 & 20 lbs each and I'm about to switch them. They're just too heavy in their infant carriers. Plus, they're trying to sit up while in their carriers and can't, which makes for long, whiny trips!

We are switching this weekend. Neither of them has hit the weight limit, but both of them are in the 90+ percentile for height and thus their feet are already hanging off the end! I will definitely miss the snap n go but they were starting to get a little antsy in their seats anyway because they want to sit upright instead of recline. I still plan to keep them rear facing as long as possible in their convertibles.

I switched mine about 3 weeks ago, right before they were 10 months.

We switched at 12mos because as much I as hated lugging around those seats it was far easier than lugging two wiggling babies into their big boy seats

We're still in them and I'd like to get to their first birthday. It's just so cold here and even though they are both almost 20lbs and weigh a ton in the carriers, it would be such a pain to have to bundle them up and carry them out.

Just now at 7 months because my chunky monkeys are both 30" and 21 & 22 lb

I put them forward facing which really bothers me, I am considering putting them rear facing because that is the right thing to do.

    I too have a question:

When your car in the garage, each convertible is on each side of the passenger seat....how do you get to the farthest one?

I can't walk around obviously because of the garage wall, so I have to recline my driver's seat and squish myself in. Is that what you do?

Also, if I put mine rear facing, both front seats are so squished that I cannot drive....

We're still in the infant carriers at 10.5m old and plan to keep them in there for as long as possible. They were 14#14oz and 17#6oz at 10 months. My odd was in the carrier until she was 13 m because it was so much easier (and she was always tiny, too). DS, however, was out of the carrier at 4 months because he was so huge (he was already 19lbs).

I don't know how I would function without my carriers!

It's against the law to have them forward facing before one year and 20 pounds. They need to go rear facing.

    To the OP:

We switched at about 5-6 months since they outgrew their infant carriers at that age.

We switched to convertible at 12 months old. They got new car seats for their birthday.

It is not against the law in Ontario, Canada since the minimum requirement is 20 pounds or 1 year whichever comes first. Although I understand it is the minimum requirement and is not good enough to safeguard children against injury.

Having said that, I have not driven them anywhere yet in forward facing since they were installed and already had asked my husband to change them to rear facing since it's the safest, specially after watching YouTube videos of dummy dolls in car crash tests.

    Thanks though.
