I went to my first interview on Tuesday for my dream job position in a Level III NICU--the same place my girls were in. I begin on the 1st and am thrilled that I am going to be caring for and nurturing these tiny little beings! I did a rotation there before I had any idea I'd be having NICU babies. I can't believe that I'm fortunate enough to be able to give back this way. What a lucky and blessed girl I am! :yahoo:

Congratulations on getting your dream job!! :woo: And what an incredible opportunity to give back. My girls were only in the NICU for a couple of days but it was long enough to realize what incredible people NICU nurses are. Good luck in your new position!

I always wanted to be a pediatric nurse working with the little ones but couldn't handle the blood, so I became a teacher instead. Congrats to you! I am jealous!

Congratulations to you!! That is fantastic. You will be able to comfort so many scared parents because you have "been there done that" yourself. I have soooo much respect and admiration for NICU nurses! Since our boys were in the NICU for close to 2 months I became good friends with a couple of them that I still keep in touch with to this day. Anyway, congrats again and I hope you enjoy every minute helping those precious little miracles get healthy! :)

Congratulations! NICU nurses are Angels here on earth. Mine weren't in the NICU, but I have friends who's kiddos have been in the NICU and knowing what they do is just amazing. My hubby is a nurse, but there is a special kind of person and nurse than can do NICU. I hope you're proud of all you've accomplished!!!

    Yay!!

This is something I've been considering. I only lack a few classes (4-5) for my human services degree. So now I have to see what all I'd have to do to become a NICU nurse. If I'll have to go all through nursing school or if I can do it another way if I finish this other BA first.

Thank you, everyone :) This is so exciting for me, as well as my family. What a great way to use what I've learned on so many different levels. I am amazed that in this economy that I was able to get a job, and getting the one that I was aspiring to get is more than a bonus. Wow!

Hmmm, honestly I'm not really familiar at all with a human services degree. I'm interested to know how that relates to nursing. I know that our school was set up to do a 10 credit hour course each semester and each one was called Nursing Process I-IV. They weren't broken down like I know other nursing schools around us had them. We did have an additional psych class in our 3rd semester, but other than that it was simply NP I, II, III, and IV. Are any of the classes you've taken on the curriculum for your nursing school, aside from prerequisites?

Congrats!! I am so very excited for you!! We were so blessed to have had a nurse who had a baby born at 29 weeks she provided so much encouragement and information!! I don't know what we would have done with out her. She was our saving grace. Your going to be AMAZING!!
