I'm so glad I clicked on this forum topic. I just read through from the beginning of the thread and I got some great recommendations for my next couple of books. I don't post much in general, but I love to read, when I can. By the way, my girls just turned 2 on October 14 and they also love to *read* and be read to.

I just finished reading The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein.

Today, I just finished the "Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. Would def recommend....it's a page turner! It's not something that I would have been drawn to on my own but a friend suggested. I have to pick up the next book in the trilogy... "Catching Fire".

I just finished Unbearable Lightness by Portia De Rossi...what a page turning memoir that was. I felt like if she was in front of me, I would have given her big hug. I definitely recommend that book!
I am trying to finish The Abstinence Teacher by Tom Perrotta, I really liked Little Children by him but I am not digging this book so far.
Still on the wait list for The Girl Who Played with Fire.

I got a nook recently and in the past two weeks I've read:

    Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey
Heat Lightning (Virgil Flowers #3) and Bad Blood (Virgil Flowers #4) by John Sandford
American Gods and Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman
A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick
Alice in Wonderland and Alice through the Looking Glass - Lewis Carroll
and I just started 20K Leagues Under the sea by Jules Verne (which is part of 50 Classic Novels for $2.99!)

I have to let my husband play with my nook so he can get caught up reading the same books I have.

Earlier this week, I finished Beachcombers by Nancy Thayer. It was good, a lot like a Kristin Hannah book.

I am now reading The Cookbook Collector by Allegra Goodman. I like it.

Nancy, I was looking at that Portia de Rossi book today. I'll have to put it on my list.

I'm reading Shattered Dreams by Irene Spencer. She was raised in a polygamist family in Utah and then become herself the 2nd of many wives. Her half-sister (and their mothers were also half-sisters) was the 1st wife. Her husband's family lived in northern Mexico and still do to this day. Several of her extended family have been murdered by the drug cartels after protesting the violence.

It's a fascinating memoir and glimpse into the fundamentalist, Mormon world.
