Anyone read Wicked the life and times of the wicked witch of the west? A friend of mine and I are going to see the musical and I want to know if it is something I should read before I see the musical.

I never read it (but I think it was our BOTM at one point). I did see the musical and I LOVED it.

Loved The Help and The Last Song. I am a big Jennifer Weiner fan, but like Emily Giffin and Jodi Piccoult better! I just finished an old one that I just got my hands on - The Patron Saint of Liars, and really enjoyed it. Also just finished The Virgin Blue and The House at Riverton(which I am ashamed to admit were just sitting around my house because I couldn't get interested and now I am trying to save the few pennies I have so I finally read them) and thoroughly enjoyed both!

I thought it was terrible. Really and truly terrible. It is NOT the musical or based on it in any way (except the title). I did the same thing as you when I was going to Chicago. I purchased it in the airport bookstore and read it on the plane. I was terribly disturbed by the book and actually canceled our plans to see the musical because of the book. It was only after I got back home that I learned the book and the musical were not the same.

Terrible? Really? Funny that I loved it. But I have never seen the musical, only read the book twice. I had no expectations of a musical when I read it either time so maybe that is the difference? I loved it so much I bought the sequels but have yet to read them. Here is an older thread about the series: Wicked

I am currently reading 2 books. Burned which is book 7 seven in the house of night series and Life as we Know it. Life as we Know it is about what happens in a small PA town after an asteroid hits the moon and pushes its orbit closer to earth. I am so glad this outlet is here I love to read and feel incomplete unless I have a book to read.

Most of the books I read are YA (since it's what I am currently writing myself).

Just finished reading Going Too Far by Echols. YA contemporary. Great book, quick read. She's great at showing romantic/sexual tension.

Reading now, Some Girls Are. Also YA Contemp. Very good. Pretty intense. Kind of sad.

Next book on my list is SPEAK which I have heard is really good and Some Girls Are has been compared to.

Then I will re-read Eclipse because I can't remember so much of it and I want to ready myself for the movie. After that, I will begin reading Percy Jackson's Lightening Thief series.

Burned is the book I am ready for...waiting for a friend to get finished so I can read it. That's a pretty good series.

I am now reading The Hobit for like the 3rd time (one of my all time favs). I just finished Wicked, Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the East and I really did not enjoy it. I am fixing to start on Eclipse and read it through for the second time before the movie comes out, and I also want to re-read the last Harry Potter before that movie comes out. I hate going in to a movie and not being able to remember how the book went.

I just finished Favorite Wife by Susan Ray Schmidt. TBH, this was a book chosen by the local book club I joined and I didn't think I would like it. Boy was I wrong! I finished it in 3 days, I couldn't put it down. It was such a good book!
