Anna is always squinting or acting like the light bothers her eyes. Sometimes, they get watery and red in just normal room light. We asked the pedi about it at her 2 year appointment, and she acted like it was probably not a big deal. She said it might be allergies, and I could try Claritin. It doesn't seem like allergies to me though. It seems like the light is bothering her eyes a lot. Any thoughts? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm wavering between thinking that her hair is in her eyes, or she's just learning that her face moves, or she's going blind.

I don't have experience in this, but can your pedi recommend an eye doctor for her to see to have it checked out. I know light bothers me but my eyesight is okay.

I'd take her to an eye doctor to get it checked out. I think there's good reason to wonder what's up (and don't like it when pedis brush off parental concerns <_< ) - probably nothing, or nothing serious, but it's worth finding out for sure.

Take her in to the eye doctor. Andrew had problems starting around two (in hindsight) and it wasn't until he was four that the GP taking stitches out from a fall noticed that something was off (he worried that it was caused by the fall, it wasn't). It turned out that he's farsighted and had a muscle problem in his left eye. All completely fine now after a year of bifocals and frequent eye patching to to strengthen the muscle, but I really wish I would have taken him in sooner. It could be nothing, but I think you'll probably feel better once you know for sure. Good luck!

Yep, I would also recommend taking her to the Ophthalmologist. Tyler had some light sensitivity and I did take him in. Turned out to be nothing. But he does have blue eyes and apparently light seems to bother blue-eyed people more. :pardon:

I would take her to an opthamologist. It could be a sensitivity to light, it could be that she's having trouble seeing or it could be nothing. The specialist should be able to determine that.

Thanks all. She does have really light blue eyes, and I have really really bad eyesight (can't read the big E on the eye chart without glasses). I'm off to find an opthamologist that will be good with 2 year olds!

Hope you find someone good. I had to ditch the first one I tried - he sucked with my kids(all kids maybe :unknw: ) & I left after he had only checked 1 of my twins

Went to another one & have been very happy with him.

Our pedi refers to Cincinnati Children's. We've seen a pediatric urologist, and a pediatric ENT there and they've both been good with my kids. I didn't love either one, but it was because they are normal brusque doctors with adults! So, fingers crossed that opthamology will be as successful! Now I'm trying to figure out whether our regular insurance or our eye insurance will cover it. Do not like insurance websites. :(

Our ped referred us to one that was great with kids -- my only complaint was that for a 9:00 a.m. appt, we didn't get seen until 10! How do you run an hour late at 9 in the morning??? But Amy was very patient. My hint: Bring a DVD player if you have one. Even if you don't need it for the initial wait to be seen, if the doctor is going to dilate your child's eyes, it will help keep them under control during the 20-30 minutes that takes.

Thanks for the tip. We waited like an hour with Jack for his urologist appointment, and we had nothing to entertain him aside from the Where's Waldo poster in the exam room. I would have forgotten all about that.

I have (had) really bad eyesight (I couldn't read the Big E either!) and really light blue eyes and light absolutely destroys me. However, I might be part vampire. And not the sparkly skin ones.

Royce has lighter eyes than Alice and his eyes will water when he's outside. He just hasn't figured out that he needs to blink more often when his eyes are watery.

I'm hoping that's it. Hers are watering inside in rooms lighted with a dimmer switch - not even fully lit bulbs. I haven't noticed any sight issues, but I'm not sure I would? Hopefully, it's nothing.

Jason is the same way! We have been told it is from his blue eyes. This boy can't even keep his eyes open in the photography studio because of the lights. He has to hear the count & open his eyes.
