Just curious if anyone has used the book...12 Hours Sleep in 12 Weeks by Suzy Giordano.

My twins were born at 35 weeks and are now 12 weeks old. They both have pretty bad reflux. My DS eats a lot and is about 11lbs and eats about 5oz/feeding but my DD weighs just above 9lbs and only eats about 3oz/feeding. Anyhow, I've been reading this book and am interested in trying it but curious about feedback and whether you modified how you used it!

    Thanks!

I didn't read it but I did accomplish that with my boys. They were sleeping 12 hours by 11 and 12 weeks. My daughter is now 6 months old and still feeding through the night - we're mostly co-sleeping. So I think it is possible, more so with bottle feeding than nursing, but every child is different that's for sure. 12 hours by 12 weeks is possible, but not the norm.

I haven't read that book (I have about 20 other baby sleep books though, mostly unread, ha) but was wondering how she says this can be accomplished without CIO? I would assume she does not recommend CIO at only 12 weeks, no? Our boys started STTN when they were around 4-5 months actual age (2-3 months adjusted age), and it was wonderful. But for the past month or two they have started to have frequent night wakings which is really annoying. We're just riding it out right now though but if it gets unbearable then we will try CIO. But anyway, back to the book, I am curious what the author recommends for getting a baby to STTN at only 12 weeks. It just seems to be chance/luck to me as to whether babies so young will STTN then.

I would have to agree (I have not read the book) but my two were going 11-12 hours by 12 weeks and I couldn't tell you how it happened. It really was by chance and/or luck.

I read the book, but couldn't get it to work for us because our house situation required the babies sleeping in our rooms and one of the first things she suggests is getting them out of your room. They didn't get out until we got a new house at 7 months, and as soon as they were out of our room, they started sleeping through the night.

I thought her principles made sense but it definitely seemed like alot of work in the beginning. If I remember correctly, her basic principles were (1) keeping a schedule and (2) not picking them up when they cry if it's sleeptime. I think she said you were supposed to go in and comfort them in all these different ways, but not pick them up unless you absolutely had to. Using patting, repositioning, wrapping, talking, pacifiers, etc. I've never had much luck with that kind of soothing. If they're crying in the middle of the night, no matter how much I try to soothe, they'd just get madder and madder until I finally picked them up.

I'm curious, too, if others have had success - she acts like she has a great success rate.

Interesting concept, I did read the book cover to cover a few times. But we never implemented it since I was breastfeeding. She says you can breastfeed, but you'd need to pump for all their meals, which is a lot of unnecessary work. I think you can apply some of the plans and principles and not others.

Lots of babes, especially breastfeed ones, need to eat more often than she recommends.

Haven't read the book, but this is exactly what I was thinking. Definitely not well compatible with breastfeeding--How would you build your supply without nursing on demand?

I also wouldn't do that for preemies; many of them need to eat more often, and I just don't think it's right to encourage 12 hours of sleep for a preemie in the first few months.

I totally agree that if you have preemies or if you are breastfeeding it doesn't sound practical since they will still likely be eating in the night at 12 weeks.
