Aiden has a new word that's 2nd favorite in his vocabulary (2nd to "NO" of course). I thought I had a while before it'd hit, but his new favorite word is "WHY". All day. Even when you answer, he adds another why. Just now...

    Aiden: Mama, whatcha doin?
    Me: Checking my email.
    Aiden: Why?
Me: So I can see if anyone from work emailed me.
    Aiden: Why?
Me: So I can write them back if I need to.
    Aiden: Why?
Me: Because that's the nice thing to do.
    Aiden: Why?
    Me: Because.
    Aiden: Because why?
    Me: Because I said so.
    Aiden: But WHY?

Oh heaven help me...I hope to God Conner doesn't catch on!!!

 We had to give Ian a limit of 3 "Why's" per conversation. When he hit the limit, we'd just say, "No more questions for now" and he got the point. Before the limit, he could go for hours asking questions! Also, hitting them back with, "What do you think?" can help, too (not sarcastic, but really listening to their answer). It doesn't stop them from being curious and wanting to learn, but it makes them really think about it. And you would be shocked at the amazing answers they can come up with!

    Why oh why...oh why...oh...................

We're in full-on why mode. I'm (usually) ok w/ the whys of the world, but not when the why is in response to something I tell him to do (or not do). So the other day we have the usual conversation:

Me: Hayden, I need you to pick up the crackers you just dropped on the rug, please.
    Hayden: Why?
Me: Because I said so. Hayden, when I ask you to do something, you need to just do it. No asking "Why."
    Hayden: How come?

Whoever gave my 3 yr old a thesaurus is dead meat.

 clever boy! We are also in the "Why?" phase and its driving me batty. DH has started saying "Parcheesi" in response to repeated Why's (when they already know the answer or they are just being obstinate). Amazingly this works and gets them laughing and off the endless why-loop. I use it after I've already answered the question, asked them what they think, and then am done answering.

    Too funny!

Amazingly, mine have not picked this one up yet... (And I better close this window before they get a chance to read it!) :escape:

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe it is because they know better than to question me :girl_devil: Yeah right! :rotflmbo:

LOL THAT'S Funny! :rotflmbo: Mine would've just said "why?" again..

We tend to just ask them 'why' back. That usually quiets them down.

Andrea- This started here a few months ago. It usually gets to the point where I say "I already told you why, I am not answering again" and then stop answering them and/or say something else to distract them. Seems to work pretty good. Have fun ;)

Ohh, I remember that phase. Thankfully K&K aren't there yet. Kevan still says "no" to everything, while Karina says "no way Mommy, no way."

We finally resorted to saying, in a sing-song voice, "Are you asking a question when you already know the answer? Silly girl!" I must have said that 947 times a day.
So ignore my advice, because obviously it didn't work. [IMG]
