The site Adrian and Jessica linked to has a picture of Commisso's as the store. I don't know which one but Commisso's was the grocery of my childhood. They were bought by Sobey's and were rebranded (the one I grew up with is a Price Choppers now) about 5 years ago and I miss them. :( It just isn't the same. (and if that trip though grocery chains of Canada wasn't boring I don't know what is)

Now that was funny. I read the first 3 reviews, and laughed. Is that a real amazon listing??

Interesting thread, from a cultural perspective. Never heard of milk in a bag, other than cafeterias. When we lived in Europe, our milk was delivered daily to the back door in glass bottles. I can't remember whether I liked the quality better then or now, but would much prefer to go back to that level of freshness.

Yeah. Check out Three Wolf Moon T-shirt. People have way too much time on their hands and too few creative outlets. ;)

LOL! I've actually fed my kids that milk, but I promise I didn't buy it on amazon.

QD used to have it as an option in the 80s and 90s...

That was us growing up too! My friend up the street still has a metal box like that and still gets milk delivery in glass bottles. I think it's so cool! I called the dairy she gets her milk from to see if we can get delivery also. Even though were 1/8th of a mile apart, we're in different towns, so they won't deliver here. :(

We have quite a few friends and my Dad too that get their milk via delivery in glass bottles. You know who they are because they have a blue cooler sitting on their porch instead of those cute milk baskets. :) The company that does it around here is Oberwies We would love to do it, but it is way to expensive for us, considering how quickly we go through milk. Their chocolate milk is so good and chocolaty, that usually we mix it half with white.

Just FYI - her reply could show up on page 2 even if she only read page 1. Just like I am only on page 2, but this will show up on page, what, 5 of this thread? Just sayin'.

Hmmm. Is it a pile up when you have a FB post about someone and a lot of mods jump on? Just wondering?

Maybe people who want to call others rude shouldn't make rude comments themselves?

Love this one too - Ode to Canadian Bagged Milk!! But wait, Wisconsin? I have never seen bagged milk there, unless you count the cow's bag (udder).

I haven't ever heard of the bags either, but they sound like a real space saver!! I wish they were available here! I think you might have said earlier, Kendra, but how much are they? If they were comparable in price they would be so worth it! Maybe one day they will be available more in the US.

Cristina, you mentioned they had them in Argentine too. I did ask DH about this too since he served a mission for the Church in Peru. He said the only cow's milk he saw was in boxes (the kids that doesn't have to be refridgerated). If they got milk there it was got's milk and it was fresh and in a pitcher. I guess it's a matter of location. It's interesting how just a couple countries away is so different. Of course there are ALOT of cows and ALOT of beef in Argentina, so I guess it makes more sense to have more milk there. :unknw:

    ITA!!

I did this when we first moved to UT, but it was just too expensive. It was delivered twice a week in reusable half gallon plastic bottles and was SOOO good b/c it came from a farm just abt an hour away! MMMMMM! But it cost as much for a half gallon as it did at the store for a gallon! Just not practical when you have 3 growing boys and a hubby that drink 6-8 gallons A WEEK!!

I'm told milk used to be sold in bags in Brazil as well at some point (so I've been told anyway), but I can't remember seeing anything but milk in those boxes/cartons and some in jugs (but not as many) in supermarkets. At some point it was phased out for some reason.

We had the metal box with the glass milk delivery when I was kid. Boy, was it yummy!
Never seen the bags before either. They are very odd looking...I wonder how different it tastes?

We did have a milk man when I was little. He used to open the side down and put it at the top of the stairs. We didn't lock back in those days.

The bags cost $4-6 for 4 litres which is just a bit over a gallon. (4 litres = 1.05)

Ok, I'm totally not reading all these responses, but I totally wish milk came in bags here in the US for the same price as our gallons. They would be much handier. I have always loved the milk in bags at my grandparents in Canada. Especially since it's so easy to freeze.

I didn't read all the responses, but wanted to comment that in Israel the milk is usually sold in the bags. It's a rarity to find the containers there.
