Hope I am not posting too much but suddenly as we approach a year I have oodles of questions...eek!

    Regarding bottle weaning...

    1) Did you go right to cup or use sippy and why?

    2) How soon did you start and what approach worked for you?

    3) Did anyone go a little past a year so they could start introducing whole milk via bottle instead of a cup and a new drink all at once? So, can I start the process at a year?

We use a regular child's cup for water or leftover formula at meals and they drink from it fine. It has been a while since I used sippies...they did okay but I think if we stuck with it they would get the hang of it. Interested to hear your stories.

    1. Once they went to milk, we used sippies. Cups are way to messy to being with or to take on the go for us at the beginning.

    2. Do they take sippy cups at all? I am confused. Sorry. Are you talking about making the switch to whole milk or the sippy cup and no bottle?

    3. No, we only did the transition to milk in the bottle so I could measure ounce for ounce the replacement. Then once they were on all milk, we went right to sippies.

My two never got any milk in a bottle. As soon as we went to milk, I started putting it in sippies. With L&L, I started the process around 11 months, but they had no issues with dairy & no issues with weight. I started by mixing half formula/half milk then when they adjusted to that, I went to full milk.

sorry - for question 2 let's say I want to do sippy cups. I have not done them consistently and right now they take sips out of a regular cup. So I would like to move them to whole milk around a year, but I don't know whether to wait on the sippy cup for that introduction (of whole milk) or start giving them formula in a sippy cup now for practice.

We use primarily regular cups at meals. They prefer it to the sippy cup, but since its not possible to carry around a regular cup all of the time, I took out the thing in the cup that slows the flow and have been having them drink that way. One of my girls is now using hers with the piece inside. My girls are a bit younger, but they love to drink from their sippies now! They still reach for my glass everytime I drink though :) Good thing I don't mind sharing my water!

I think you can do whatever you want. If you are not an ounce counter, then you could go to sippies now with formula. Or wait. I would just put a little formula in a sippy at mealtimes and do bottles. Then once they hit a year and we made the transition, I went to all sippies.

My DD started just rejecting her bottle a week after her first birthday and we went straight to a cup, no sippy unless in the car or out and about and it took her about 2 weeks to acclimate to a cup. We practiced with her by lightly holding the bottom of the cup and telling her to take it slow but of course there were messes, shoot, she's 3 now and there are still messes here and there. :) We also continued to give her Organic Whole Milk.

DH and I are kinda old school with certain things and we figured that we didn't have sippies as kids and didn't think to really use them with her for everyday use.

Here she is at 13 months old drinking her milk: http://www.clipshack.com/Clip.aspx?key=7F309449B5BAF55E

    1. We went from bottle to sippy, I did not want to deal with the mess.
    2. We started practicing with the sippy cup around 6 months. We started bottle weaning at 15 months and replaced each bottle with a sippy (they were already getting a sippy throughout the day). We dropped a bottle a week.
    3. I did not drop bottles until 15 months. A little before 12 months we started mixing formula with milk and gradually reduced the amount of formula until we were all out of it and they were on whole milk.
