My DH and I have been discussing our options for beds for our girls. They are 2 years 2 months old. They are fine in their cribs, they don't try to get out yet. DH wants to do toddler beds while I'm leaning towards twin beds. One problem is that the girls' room is tiny, so there isn't much space. I'm just wanting your suggestions and to know what you did and at what age. Thanks!

My oldest two went to twin beds at about 3 1/2 years old, because i felt it was time to transition my youngest two into the toddler beds. But Im kind of facing a dilema like yours, the boys room is really not big enough so im really considering putting a bunk bed in there and my oldest son (will be 4 saturday) sleep on top...and my youngest sleep on the bottom.

My oldest two are 4 and my youngest two just turned two last month :)

We went the toddler bed route. I am hoping to get a couple of years use out of them, and hopefully move on to bunk beds or loft beds of some sort in the future. Like you, their room isn't that big and 2 twin beds would not have been a comfy fit. My girls are 27 months old, and there is no way that I would feel comfortable with my girls in bunk beds right now.

My kids are still in their toddler beds and will be 5 in two weeks. I will be switching them into twin size probably in the next year. I want to get bunks for the boys, but at 4 and 2 I wasn't ready to have them in the house. I am still concerned about getting them for the boys, because I know Liam will be climbing up there and at 3, that is worrying.

I suggest the toddler beds if your space is smaller, I don't think your kids are old enough for bunks yet.

Ours went to twin beds at 2.5 years.

We went straight to twin or full beds. IMO, toddler beds are a waste of money. :pardon: But if your space is small that might be the better option for you.

Do your cribs convert? Ours converted to toddler beds. We did toddler beds for only a month and then went to double beds. If you have to purchase toddler beds, then I would skip it and just go straight to twins.

My kids' bedroom was just plain too small to fit two twins. You wouldn't be able to walk! So, we had to go with toddler beds until they were old enough for bunk beds. This Christmas my mom bought them bunk beds that come apart into two twins. So, right now they are bunked so they fit. But, when we eventually separate them, they will be able to each have their half of the bunk bed, so we won't have to buy another bed. If I had had the room I definitely would have skipped the toddler beds. Thankfully we had one handed down to us and my Grandma bought the second one for their birthday or it would have killed me to waste that money on something that could only be used for a few years!

We would have to buy the toddler beds, our cribs do not convert. Two twins will fit in their room, but will leave very little space for anything else. The other option we have is to switch the girls' room with my son's room (He's 6). DS room is about 2 ft. bigger. I hate having to ask him to give up his room though. I think that is going to be our best option and just go ahead and getting 2 twin beds. Is it wrong to ask him to switch rooms?

Looking back, I would skip the toddler bed, but that's mostly because it was such a pain to NOT sit on them and read or hugs and kisses. It was heck on my knees!

I know it's a HUGE pain, but I would probably switch the rooms! :(

We had convertible cribs. We converted from crib to toddler bed at age 3. They are still in the toddler beds at 4.5. We plan to keep them in them until they are 5 and then do bunk beds. With 2 toddler beds, they have a dresser and small bookcase- there is no room for any toys! We could not fit 2 twins w/o bunking them and bunks are not recommended (per AAP) until after age 5.

No, I don't think it is wrong at all. You do what you have to do. :pardon: I think if 2 kids are sharing a room, then them having the larger room is pretty logical IMO.

We transitioned our boys from cribs to beds at 2 years and 9 months. I highly recommend waiting - what's the rush? I also really recommend the Ikea Kritter beds - they're bigger than cribs but smaller than singles. We plan to use them until the boys are old enough for bunks (their room is too small for two singles). http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/S59851606

we were in twin beds a week after they turned 2. they'd been climbing out of their cribs for a while. also, they like to fall asleep w/us, and this way we can help them fall asleep and then leave easily. for us, it works!

Ours were in cribs until 3 and then switched to toddler beds (our cribs convert from cribs to toddler beds to full-size beds). We had crib tents on their cribs until then because I didn't want them climbing out when I was asleep and hurting themselves. They're still sleeping in their toddler beds, but are getting so big that they don't fit any longer so we might switch to full beds soon.

Ours were in cribs until they were 3, then they went straight to twin beds. I guess if they move from cribs because they are getting too big, I don't understand putting them in toddler beds because it uses the same size mattress, doesn't it?

Anyways, our transition went really well. We did move them to a different, bigger room. But we have a 4 bedroom house, one is ours, one was their nursery (still keep a crib in there just in case), and one is a guest room. The other room just generally collects junk.

I did think about bunk beds, the type that could be 2 separate twins or bunk beds. But I don't think it's really safe to put them in bunk beds until they are much older.

first I would say to use the cribs as long as you can..they start getting out of their beds and that leads to a whole new set of issues. We HAD to convert their cribs to toddler beds b/c my one ds would rock the crib to the point of lifting the legs off the floor. With that we put those rails on but they kept coming off..so then we removed those and just put comforters below the bed in case they fell out and they would...a lot...so we ditched the converted toddler beds and just got twin mattresses and put them on the floor. We too have the same issue of space and don't see us getting twin beds (frames) until we either add on or they are old enough to use bunk beds. It works fine and there is no harm in just having the mattresses on the floor..they no longer fall off and if they do it;s no big deal. Best thing we did. But I would have kept them in cribs longer if I could have.

Toddler beds were a waste for us. We went with twin captain beds(have drawers underneath).

It's not wrong to make him switch rooms. He will still have his own room where the girls will have to share. I actually have the girls in the master bedroom of our apt and me in the smaller room
