I just found out that there are mini cribs. We were planning on getting two full-size cribs for the girls to sleep in but 2 mini cribs would work much better with our limited space. The thing is I don't want to buy them only for the twins to outgrow them before the toddler bed stage. Has anyone use mini cribs before? How long do they last? We moved our boys to twin size beds with rails at about 18 months and that worked great-I'm just not sure that you could fit an 18-month old in a mini crib.

I saw one at BRU on Sunday and was wondering the same thing. We also moved our DS to a toddler bed around 18 months and he did just fine. I think the only thing that turns me off to the mini cribs is that surely you have to buy special sheets for them, or maybe you don't...I have no idea.

I have no insight other than I thought it was interesting that this popped up as my DH and I were just talking about this over the weekend. Be interested to see if anybody else has any experience with them.

    :)

I just got online and looked up the dimensions for the one we were looking at and lengthwise it measures 39.5 inches. I thought that sounded too small until I measured my 3 year old and realized he's only 37 inches tall. It is 28 inches wide also so I think it would work. I thought I had our crib sets all picked out but I think we are going to go with the mini cribs now that we found convertible ones. If anyone knows where they have a good selection of crib sets for mini cribs please let me know.

out of curiosity...where did you find convertible ones? The only one I've ever seen was at BRU and they only had the one. It was kind of off in a corner like they really didn't even want to have it out.

Check amazon.com for the bedding. I was just looking on there and it looks like you can use the porta crib sheets for the mini cribs. Not sure about actual sets though. Hmmm.... this gives me a new project to look into while DS is down for a nap!

I found the convertible one at babysupermall.com (its by davinci). It only converts to a twin size bed but we've always just put rails on and skipped the toddler bed anyways. I know they have some convertible mini cribs at Babies R Us to but they don't convert to a bed they convert to either a changing table or a playpen.

Absolutely!! We used them for our twins, because of limited space...They were 2+ before we moved them to "big kid" beds, and they worked out just perfectly!!

Great to hear! Thanks! We've decided to go with the mini cribs. We haven't found anything of good quality for crib sets but we already bought full-size crib sets anyways. I'm going to alter the crib sets we have so that we can still use them.. Just not sure how to go about doing that for the fitted sheets yet..

Or you could just put both babies in one crib like we did. Due to Jessy's heart problem she had trouble keeping her temp up and them sleeping together kept her more stable temp wise.

Our girls are still in their mini-cribs!!! :good:
They turned 2 in December & are still very comfy in there. (they are not very 'tall' kiddos though :) )
We got the DaVinci Emily Mini Cribs & they turn into twin beds ~ which will work out great for us & we plan on changing them out sometime in the next few months.
We have definetly got great use out of them so far & hopefully will get much more!
