Crib Bumpers or Not?

Just wondering how many of you are using a crib bumper? I am and thinking that now that I should remove it...I dunno. With my first, I used one without any issues, but with these two they are so active in bed, I'm afraid they'll lay against it and suffercate...now on the flip side, I'm afraid they'll get their little arms/legs caught between the slats...

I know there is a breathable one with mesh...I haven't got that kind...wondering if it's worth it.

What ya'll using, if anything?

 

After posting a similar post here, we bought the crib bumpers that were breathable mesh because my one LO kept gettig ankles, arm/shoulder caught. They worked great - think she was annoyed...heh heh. I bought them at 5 mos or so and they were off by 7 months because she could pull them off - the velcro felt stronger...guess she was stronger.

 

I used them. I took them off a couple of times but then the girls would have a leg or arm hanging out of the crib so I'd put them back.

 

I have always used the breathable mesh ones and have been very happy with them. Mine are 15 months old and we actually still use them to keep the pacifiers in the crib! I have tried taking them off, but the pacifiers would end up in the floor and I had to go in and give them back. If they never fall out, they can get them and i don't have to get up.

 

We put breathable ones on when limbs started getting caught. Great binky-catcher, too.

 

I ues them, too, but the boys often just sling their feet over them and dangle them out of the crib anyway, soo......

I do find them invaluable for keeping the pacis in play, tho!

We used regular crib bumpers without issue. We never took them out. In the end, they used them as pillows and foot props.

 

With my last child I went over and over about this and just ended up keeping her bumper on for the feet and hands getting caught. My twins are still swaddled in their "taco holders" so they have their bumper pad on with no issues yet.

 

We are using the regular bumpers for both our first (28months) and the twins (3months). So far no issues.

 

we use them! (SO FAR) no issues here! although one of my LO's has crept up to the corner of his crib with his face against it.
i think he likes the feel of it. :huh:

 

I always had the regular ones. I used them until they were just using them to stand & jump on when they started pulling up. We never had a problem with them & we never had a problem after I took them out either, so I think it's just a matter of whatever you are comfortable with.

 

I agonized over this in the beginning, but decided to use the regular bumpers. We are still using them. I like them because they help keep the pacis in. DD does put her feet over them and out the crib slats, but she doesn't get stuck anymore. I've heard that some people like the breathable ones and some people don't.

 

Took them out when the boys were about 6wks old and then put them back in a couple of weeks ago to be a binky catcher and help the arms/legs from getting stuck - just using the bumpers that came with their bedding set

 

We are still using regular crib bumpers and will continue to do so until they graduate out of the crib. I've watched them on the baby monitor scoot up beside the bumper and have their face turned toward it sometimes, but then they'll turn their head away (and then back again, and then away, etc). I think if they ever had their face so tight up against the bumper that they were suffocating that their own natural reaction would be to turn their head away. At the very least we would hear a struggle/crying on the monitor if they couldn't for some reason, but our boys have excellent upper body and neck control now, so we don't worry.

 

We use breathable ones for the same reason that pps mentioned... Keeping pacifiers from ending up in the black hole under the crib!

 

I was using them in the beginning but when DD was about 4 months old I heard her crying for me. When I went upstairs, I found that she had got her head under the bumper and couldnt get out. I removed it immediately as she could have suffocated or got really hot and uncomfortable. I never ever used them again and also removed DS´s bumper (though I never had a scare with him).

 

I used the regular ones when the kids started to get arms and legs stuck in the crib. I think we took them down around 10-11 months old.
