I have heard that oatmeal helps with milk production, wanted to know if anyone has tried it. Not the instant stuff, that has a lot of salt in it, so it would defeat the purpose, but the rolled oats stuff. I was thinking of trying it out, but wantd to know if anyone else had tried it.

My lactation consultant at the hospital told me to eat a ton of oatmeal. And you're right, not the instant stuff but good old fashioned rolled oats. She said to eat oatmeal, granola bars with oatmeal, bread with oatmeal in it... anything with oatmeal. I'm trying but I honestly don't know if it's helping as my babies are only two weeks old.

Oatmeal worked for me. I didn't use it for this until about 4 mos when my supply started to even out, but I didn't oatmeal in a bowl every morning and also from time to time would make a batch of oatmeal cookies...yummy. This and drinking a couple of glasses of extra water really boosted my supply. Good luck.

I didn't realize oatmeal was a big supply increaser at first, but my dh and I would normally cook up a couple of cups for us in the morning, so I was eating it fairly regularly. we quit for a while, and now have started back up, but this time increasing the amount to feed to the babies... anyway, its not hard to cook, so enjoy!

I have not tried the oatmeal....but will!

I have been using the Fenugreek Capsules and Mothers Milk Tea that I got at GNC and it has worked great! It only took a few (2-3) days and I am back in full supply. My issues was running low at night....and I did not want to get up and pump at 12:00AM now that my 3 month old boys are STTN, so this is what worked for me.

    Best of luck,
    Mishelle

I ate oatmeal religiously when I was pumping full time. I do think that it helped! I just used the regular (not quick cooking) Quaker Oats.

My dh picked up the quick cooking stuff. Wonder if it will make a diff. I can't find mothers milk tea anywhere! I have looked. Maybe we can't get it in Canada.

I think that the less processed it is, the better. The quick cooking ones are more finely ground up and more processed.

It worked for me, but it also caused me to get really smelly. Almost like I was detoxing. And the baby would break out with acne while I was on it. So I stopped, but it definitely worked.

I think it helped me for awhile (along with fenugreek) I would always load my oatmeal up with peanut butter, raisins, blueberries or other fixins to make it more exciting!

As far as I know the only difference between the quick cooking quaker oats and the old-fashioned kind is that the oats have been cut up...smaller oats cook faster... But I don't think it's like the processed 'insant' oatmeal packages. Could be wrong though I haven't looked at the actual ingredients...

I'm planning to start up my oatmeal intake tomorrow. My MIL, who never bf in her life LOl, highly recommends oatmeal to increase supply. It'll probably be the first thing she asks me tomorrow when she comes by... 'do you want some oatmeal?' LOL
