I just picked up my boys 4k packets, yikes! Cant beleive there going to be in 4k next year.. Iam just wondering if you put yours in the same class, or separate class. My boys are in preschool right now and are having no problems being in the same class so I think I might request them to be in the same class. Then in kindergarten maybe separate.. Just want to know what everyone else in the same situation is doing.. Thanks

If (and that's a big IF) they have Jr. K next year in our district, I'll be enrolling ours. My thoughts have been that I'd like to have them in different classes. But, that might not be an option either b/c I think they are only doing on Jr. K in each elementary school so they may end up together anyway. Our district has gone through a ton of changes in the last 2 yrs. and they are making major cuts. One of the cuts is that my daughter's current elementary school is closing so she is going to be sent to another school. I have no idea what they're going to do and I hate waiting to find anything out. I'm a planner!

We are going to be putting the girls in the same Pre-K class. Our are only 1/2 day so to have one in morning and one in afternoon would be kind of a pain. If they do well in a classroom setting together I am leaning towards keeping them together for Kindergarten but I will see what their teachers say.

My girls are in the same PreK class now (4 yr olds). It works well- at least for them. It was our only 'practical' option since they have an am or pm class in that building.

They do great, but they are independent of each other and have different friends in the class already. We will most likely keep them together in K (again only option for 1/2 day program) and take it from there.

Our area in MI had 'Young 5s'- look into in now if you can. Ours is NOT parent request, you have to qualify by age and 'not' pass the K screening. There is only 2 classes for our entire district (they are full day). We have over 15 all day regular K and four 1/2 day regular K classes- same curriculum, but different schedules. We are hoping to put our girls in 1/2 day K (due to being 'young'). But due to budget cuts, they have told us that they dont even know if they wil have 1/2 day or Young 5s.

We have K 'info' night next month!! Wow!

You know, that's what I meant with Jr. K. It's a young 5's program. It is not based on academics at all and only based on age and parent request. Our entire district has suffered big time and now with Granholm taking away even more funding we're just sinking. And we moved to this district b/c it was really good. Normally they do K registration in March here, so I'm wondering if that's when we'll know about the young 5's program. Mine are already in a pre-K program 3 days a week and I don't think they are entirely ready for K, but don't necessarily want another year of the same pre-K. I'm hoping this would be a happy medium.

Sorry, but what is 4K? I've never heard of it...is it like preschool?

I'm still a few years out, but I plan to keep my boys together for 4K. Again, logistics of timing (AMs vs PMs), plus the fact that our 4K, while through the school district, is taught at our daycare. If they were in different 4Ks, they'd be in different daycare classrooms & again, a hassle. I plan, at this time anyway, to keep them together through kindergarten & separate for 1st grade & up. If we stay in our current school system, separating may be harder (due to size), but we hope to move & then there won't be an issue! Good luck with your decision!

    I am assuming 4K is pre-K?

I kept mine together as 2 and 3-yr olds and had every intention of keeping them together until K. There was a co-dependence and I thought it was good for them to have each other at least in sight. In the middle of their 3-4 preschool year, I noticed my son was becomming very dependent on my daughter so decided it was time to split. This year, they are in pre-K and in separate classrooms. While it is logistically more difficult for me and was hard on my son for the first couple of days, it was the right thing for them. Now, they really enjoy exchanging stories, talking about their day, etc.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. Do whatever feels right for you and your family.

    Best of luck

I'm not sure what 4K is, I am assuming maybe it's pre-K?

Mine will be in 4 year old preschool next year (5 days a week most likely) and I am pretty sure I am keeping them in the same class. And really the only reason I am doing this is because if they have more than one class they will combine them anyway, so really it would not do me any good to put them in separate classes. However, for K I am definitely putting them in separate classes. :good:
