When going out for extended periods of time, how do you prepare your babies' bottles? We pre-make all bottles and then find a starbucks or somewhere that has hot water to warm them. It's getting old fast and I was wondering how you prepare your little ones' bottles?

I bought a powder formula dispenser and premeasured the formula and then just filled bottles of water. So, you dump it in, mix, and give. I also carried a bottle of Mylicon drops so that if I was in a place to drop a couple of drops in to decrease the bubbles I would.

We've always pre-prepared formula too. When we go out, we take 8oz of formula for each baby (ds is on nutramigen; dd is on gentleease) in Dr. Brown bottles w/ a screw-on travel top and throw an ice pack on top. When it's time to eat, rather than putting a nipple on the 8 oz bottle, we pour each baby's formula into their own 4 oz Dr. Brown's bottle and top-off with another ounce or two later if needed. We don't heat up bottles when we're out and about...they don't seem to care either way. The four bottles seem cumbersome at first, but I can't stand wasting formula, so it works for us. Maybe the twins will surprise you and take their formula cool/cold? It sure is easier. Otherwise maybe grab a car bottle warmer for when you're out.

I put water in the bottles and then have measured amounts of formula in a formula dispenser container that I bought at Babies R Us.

Once they are close to feeding time, I just mix them in and let stand for about 10 min to settle down so it's not to bubbly.

I do this also. I don't warm bottles and give them at room temperature.

Thanks ladies, we are going to try cold bottles next time we are out.

I did the same thing. I actually had two dispensers (w/2 bottles amounts in each) so I could prep 4 bottles per kid if we were going to be out all day.

I could never get my daughter to take cold or even room temp bottles so I used to bring a thermos with warm water in it and then measure that into her Avent bottles into which I'd already put the right amt of powder. (you want to make sure you measure the water tho - so as to put 4oz in and not just fill to the 4oz line for example). Voila - warm baby bottle! :)

My babies would never take cold bottles, but didn't seem to care about room temerature. I'd fill the bottles with fairly warm water and by the time they were hungry it was warm or room temperature. In the summer I just filled them with tepid water and skipped the warming step.

After much experimentation this is what we settled on as well. Mine would "tolerate" room temp water but never ate good, and if we were gone all day long, it made for a LONG day of unhappy babies. I warmed water up in the microwave at home, poured it into a thermos, and took bottles with premeasured formula in them to add the water to. If I knew it would be more than 2 bottles I brought the formula dispenser, and extra bottle liners and nipples. Love playtex dropins for this reason! :D

My peeps were breastfed so I can't comment on the formula, but for heating the bottles, I would always carry a thermos of hot water and a cup big enough to fit a bottle in. Worked like a charm and always accessible, even when there isn't (gasp!) a Starbucks to be found! ;) I had a nice, tiny cooler that I used to keep the breastmilk cold.

I use the Prince Lionheart On the Go bottle warmers. They are very easy to use - the only drawback being that you need to activate them about 15-20 minutes before you need them so the bottles can get warm up properly. That is not a big deal for me though.

We got two of those formula dispensers w/the amount needed for each bottle and we carry a thermos with hot water in it and have each bottle half full with water (eg. if they take an 8 oz bottle, the bottle would ave 4 oz of water in it & we top it off with the water from the thermos) and we just make the bottle when it was time. This way the bottle is already warm when we make it and they can have it right away.

Well, the boys would not drink cold bottles so I am thinking about getting those bottle warmers from Prince Lionheart! They look so cool!

So far I'm the only one who does on the go bottles this way. I just fill 4 or 6 bottles (depending on how long we will be gone) with formula. When we're out and its feeding time, I just simply get warm water from a restroom or restaurant. My girls are almost a year old and they still will not drink lukewarm bottles, let alone cold. That is one thing I'll do differently with our next. I had learned my lesson by the time we started baby food, so I never started warming it.

Me too! Sounds like a popular way to do bottles on the go. It always worked great for us!

Ditto! Mine won't take cold bottles but have never had a problem with room temp. I breastfeed but have never wanted to NIP for several reasons so I always have formula in the bag for when we are out. I pump at work but don't want to mess with ice packs etc so they only get the pumped milk when they are home. Even then, DH takes the pumped milk out of the fridge a few hours before feeding and lets it come to room temp and then they drink it fine. I am glad we never got into the habit of warming the bottles for them!

If yours absolutely won't take them room temp, I would put powder in the bottle like one pp and add warm water from the restaurant/store you are in. Or, work on gradually making their bottles closer and closer to room temp until they don't notice. This will also make it easier for you to introduce water and (later on) milk without worrying about the temp.
