The enrolment letters I was talking about were for the undergraduate and masters. This latest one has more information but not about what we actually need in terms of supplies (just what subjects we need to do). Annoyingly I know for a fact that it is out of date because it mentions one of the professors who isn't at the university anymore. We officially start at the beginning of March. Enrolment is at the end of February.

I would if it didn't mean travelling several hours each way :p We don't live in the very centre of the city but we are only about a 15-20 minute walk away from the CBD.

    Sounds fair then ;)

A small farming village on the Dutch-Belgian border. This place ;)

WOW, thats a bit annoying, I love when you can tell people dont put effort into things or when they write you a reference letter with someone elses name on it :p

OK that is a very cute town  When did you come to Australia?? :)

    Oh thats really awesome :)

Codie, Good luck with uni :) im sure you;ll do great... the city is nice, i love the country but i like to be close enough to the city so i dont have to drive hours and hours. Our mums family lives 5 hours from brisbane.. long drive, but so nice to go up there. Does get a bit isolated there though.

We had one of our professors from when we did our undergraduate degree write us reference letters and he used exactly the same letter for both of us but changing the names. The only problem was that he forgot to change one of the names within the body of the letter :p It wasn't a problem but I thought it was funny.

It has changed a bit since we lived there (and expanded a bit) but the church and the town hall still look the same. We moved away when we were 11 or 12. We moved to Australia two years ago now (it has passed quite quickly!).

I do miss living there and would happily move back to a small town or village if it was realistic ;)

I didnt even realise you moved here to Australia, how cool. So much for taking notice haha :p jokes. Its special growing up in a small town i reckon :)

Thanks, I was speaking to a girl I went to school with today and she is doing the same degree, which is good we will be able to help each other, although shes doing it at another campus (same uni) I am 3hrs from Sydney so its not THAT bad, after driving to QLD the other week nothings far anymore :p

It is amusing though, school references where the same (even the same spelling mistakes) and many had other peoples names on it, or school reports. I just find it funny how people dont put effort into things and it shows ;)

It looks really cute, the buildings and such. Do your whole family live here or just you two? Australia has many small towns, I love Berry its so relaxing :)

I doubt most people noticed :p We only made a final decision to come here a few weeks before we moved (we don't need visas to live here so that wasn't a problem).

True, it does show ;) Having said that, it must be tiring to do them for so many people after a while.

Just us for the moment. Maybe they will move here later, maybe they won't. Unfortunately it isn't really practical for us to live outside Sydney at this point. There are some advantages to living here though (opera house close by, plenty of museums, etc.).

That's great code. U will have a buddie to work with :) u were in qld? If u r ever In brisbane we should meet up. My friend is planning to do a bachelor of education primary like me, so we may study together or be at the same campus if and when I get in and finish my entry course. Only difference is she's going to major in physical education and I'm gonna major in music :)

I agree, and understand why they do it as simplicity is key.

You dont mind the questions do you? I love learning about other cultures and think its interesting :)

I was in Tweed head but we crossed over the boarder into QLD, next time I am up that way sure but I'm not driving 15hrs is way to long - flying so much easier!! Be positive and you will achieve your dreams!

    TwinRichard Well-Known Member

    No I don't mind.

Yes it is, I wouldn't want to drive 15 hours either although I actually prefer the train to flying, less hassle.

I don't know how my dad drives down up to Sydney then down to Melbourne and back, and up to QLD each week (depending) for work. I like trains, I find they have many different characters on them :p

ok cool :) no way would I expect u to drive 15 hours. Alishas good friend drove up and back from here to Sydney to see her by himself, crazy man

I drove it with Dad, he drove most of the way but if it was just me driving would of taken longer due to the restrictions we have that QLD doesnt have :)

Anyone know how to make sleep happen at the right time EG NIGHT! :aggressive: :headbang: :aggressive: this is unfair, I don't sleep properly (havent for years) over it. Just want to be "normal" and sleep at night :(

I just lay in bed and dont fall asleep no matter how tired I am, finished season 1 of One Tree Hill though lol now watching season 2. I had a 2hr nap from 9am - 11am so feeling ok. They go tomorrow, and I am excited - harsh but oh well :)

It's harsh but it's good :) it sucks with the sleeping, I know the feeling. Have u tried reading before bed? Hiding ur clock helps too if u can. Relax, Lavender oil helps to relax u as well. Don't eat 3 hours before bed or excerise late, makes it hard to sleep.

 I am such a nerd that reading doesnt put me to sleep because I have to keep reading to find out whats going to happen  I don't eat before bed, always was brought up on the 3hr rule. I exercise in the afternoon/early everning depending on my day. Im just a freak :silly:

Staying awake all night is Brenda's department :p That is why she is always posting at odd times ;)

My only suggestion would also be to try reading but I also know how it is when you can't stop reading and the late nights that result. Maybe try reading something you're not interested in :p

I thought the time zone may play an issue in that also :p

I like to read anything really, any type of books, newspapers, so may have to read a dictionary? lol that would be boring kind of.

  23. TwinRichard

    TwinRichard Well-Known Member

It does :p But sometimes Brenda posts when it is 3 or 4 in the morning in South Africa (mid morning AEST) :p

Is there a subject you find particularly boring then? Or maybe try reading something in a language you don't understand and just sound out the words as if it was transliterated. ;)

To tell you honestly I dont know the time difference between Australia and South Africa, I know the difference with Iceland and the US though.

SPORTS lol I find them dead boring to watch/read about. Oh I shall record it and post on here as I sound like a fool    Clearly joking, although it could be fun to learn another language, used to know some Italian (5 years), French and Japanese (learn both for a year each) and I was crap at them two really  Whats an amazing language to learn yet simple to do so?

  25. TwinRichard

    TwinRichard Well-Known Member

You can try reading a book about sports then ;)

Depends on what you mean by amazing? :p

I don't think any language is simple to learn unless you know a closely related language with similar grammatical rules. At a guess, Spanish is probably the most widely accessible language for English speakers to learn.

Sleep or die of boredom? There is a difference :p

Like the tone, the way its spoken :)

Spanish seems interesting, I wish I remembered all the Italian I learnt in primary school, I used to be good at it now Im like a learner, I remember select words. I think Ill look up ways of learning a new language :)

    Sleeping preferably :p

I can't help you there. :p SBS has radio programmes you can listen to on their website in quite a few different languages. You can see if there is one on there you like the sound of.

Unfortunately languages are something you really need to use if you are going to remember it.

I often hear it on the digital tv but dont sit down and listen, maybe I should one day. Learning takes time - which I seem to have a lot of until March.

Oh the story of life, nothing is ever that simple. Sadly where I live we dont have a huge range of diverse people so you dont really get to physically hear people speaking another language compared to the city

  29. TwinRichard

    TwinRichard Well-Known Member

That is actually one of the reasons I don't like living in an English-speaking country. It makes things easier for me in some ways but it isn't as interesting as when you are completely surrounded by another language.

We have the most boring language ever, it does not even sound interesting. Although what annoys me is when people speak things when they know its wrong (eg English - Lingwish or Seen - Seed by) By English speaking adults who know its not said like that but choose to say it wrong. Kind of a disagreement I had today - which isnt not normal the last few weeks :headbang:

How was everyone's weekend? Mine was productive (if not so much fun) I've finally unpacked everything and it is so nice not to live out of a suitcase for a change (don't know how long it's going to last though, will probably start traveling to clients again mid-February) so my house looks fully furnished and neat again

Watched the Pixar film "Up" last night with CP, it's so cute and adorable (Adrian and Richard I know you won't watch it, but you should :p)

My weekend, well I slept to avoid you all know what, they are gone so we have our silent house back - oh how I love it!! :woo: :woo: I am waiting until Wednesday to find out offers for University, we can recieve up to 9 offers, although I have decided what I want to do now. Its to cold here for summer!! :snowball: feeling lol!

Up does look cute!! Is it good?? Little kid movies are good sometimes, its funny how much adult humour is actually in them.

How can a film be "adorable"? :p

It has been relatively cold, still better than winter though ;)
