i went to the pedi and she said their right ears are pink. they both sleep on their left ears.
they are getting over colds and she said to just watch them. they've been fussy while eating (not sure if it's teething) and fighting me when i lay them down to nap. (which results in having to be rocked).
could it be their ears? teething?

It could be either, did your pedi not check there ears? I would give some ibruprofen as you can use it for either but i'm also very paranoid over infections as we have had a fair few so personally i'd probably go back and get them checked if only to rule it out. Hope they feel better soon

yes the pedi said it was pink and to watch them. that it wasn't a full blown infection.

When you have an ear infection(beginnings of one), lying down can be painful. Can prop them while they sleep somehow(swing?).

When she is talking about their ears being pink, she is talking about the ear drum. Normally it is gray in color. If it is a full blown infection it will be red and you can see yellow fluid/pus behind the eardrum. If it is just pink, that can be the start of an infection but it can also be from a cold, crying or fever. She told you to watch it because if it got worse instead of better you would want to bring them back in. It has nothing to do with laying on one side or another and nothing to do with getting water in the ears from baths.

If their ears are bothering them it can definitely affect eating and sleeping. If you get fluid in your ears (which may have been going on if they have had colds) you get that "my ear needs to pop" feeling and that can cause discomfort for babies. You can't give any cold medicine but you can give tylenol or motrin to see if this helps the discomfort and you should call your ped because some will ok you to give benadryl to help dry up the fluid in the ears.
