Oh, the thinks they think!

We've been working on manners since before they could talk but recently I've been working harder on having them say "yes, please" and "no, thank you" rather than accepting a simple "yes" or "no" when I ask if they want something. This is not how I was raised but I want my kids to learn it.

So, when I asked Trent if he'd like some more brussels sprouts as I was giving Trevor his second helping, he answered "no". I asked him to "try again, please". Rather than saying "no, thank you", he replied, "Mommy? Why doesn't grandma say no, thank you? She just says no. That's not very polite"... and followed with how he will tell her how she should say it. And yes, when he said this, the emphasis was exactly like that. As much as I'd like to see it opcorn: , I had to tell him that it would be rude to tell grandma how she should do something.

 

Too cute. It's so funny when they tell you exactly what their mind is thinking.

That's cute. Lauren asked me this week... "Mommy are you wearing that to work? :faint: Maybe your boys can teach them about being rude. :catfight:

 

LOL! They have corrected me for not coughing into my arm, and Daddy for not saying thank you. Can't get away with nothing around those two!

 

My girls told my DH that he was getting old..I thought I was going to fall in the floor laughing...honesty, it's a beautiful thing

 

That is such a tricky one! I haven't figured out how to explain to them that while it's important for them to be polite, it's not polite to tell other people that they're not being polite. :blink:

These days, we hear a lot at the dinner table about which of their classmates chews with her mouth open (apparently one child is notorious for it). :laughing:

 

Very cute! Yep, wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall when he tells grandma how she needs to be polite?

And, I just have to say -- my eyeballs about popped out of my head when you said "second helping of BRUSSEL SPROUTS!" I can't even get my DH to try brussel sprouts, let alone my twins!

:laughing: That is cute. They do think of some pretty clever things.

 

Trevor and I love them. Trent will eat them but they aren't high on his list. DH despises them and is really bad in general about eating his veggies. He had to eat two because each boy wanted to use the serving spoon to give daddy some "green balls". :laughing:
