What do you do with gifts that are duplicates or something the child already has? I am thinking about books, videos, etc. where you really don't want or need 2 copies. These are items with no gift receipt or any indication of where the item was purchased.

    TIA!

Save them to use for another gift-giving occasion, but for someone who lives far away.

Yep! They are also good for Toys for Tots, Women's Shelters, etc.

Just beware with some books, because my boys have started to claim ownership of some books and really don't want to share, so in some cases, the duplicates are helpful.

I was just going to post the same thing. I would say 1/2 of the girls books we have two of they have their names written in.

I donate them to the Children's Hospital here. My singleton has hemophilia and has been a patient there and so I know first hand how much those donations are appreciated when you have a child that is scared and hurting & just wants to go home and can't. He's only 15 months old and going in the playroom is the only thing about his stays that is anything like getting to be a kid & it is possible because people & businesses donate. Also, around holidays the hospital gives gifts to patients AND their non-patient siblings since they usually are spending their holidays in the hospital too, so donations are especially needed then.

Sometimes we take them over to the Grandparent's houses or my Brother's house to have some extra stuff on hand there. Other times we re-gift it. Most often, it's saved and donated to things like Toys for Tots. I think I had 6 or 7 toys this year for our donation. I've donated books to our Pedi's office before. Great idea about the ped's floor at hospitals. I'll keep that one in mind.
