Elise or Alyse

Hi everyone, our ID girls are due any day now and we are still on the fence about the names. We have already chosen Ava for baby A and DH likes Iris or Elise for Baby B. I think Iris is okay, but I prefer Elise, which is what we will probably go with. However, my concern is with the spelling. It would be nice to keep them both A names for Ava & Alyse, but my DH thinks people may mispronounce her name as Alice and misspell it. Your thoughts please? Ava & Alyse or Ava & Elise?

 

Elise definitely.

 

I would definitely choose Elise. Beautiful name. I would use the classic spelling.

 

I would pronounce the other Alice as well. So my vote is for Elise if you want "eh-lees".

I had a past student who spelled it Elise and a friends baby is named Elise. I love the name and I like that spelling.

 

I actually don't think Alyse is really pronounced the same as Elise. It's just a different name. I love Elise (it's my daughter's middle name), so I may be partial. I also don't love starting twin names with the first initial. So, take my thoughts for what they are worth! Beautiful names either way!

 

I like Elise, too.

On a side note... How are you doing at 38 weeks?? I am just over 35 and miserable. The thought of 38 weeks make me want to cry.

 

My personal opinion is you go with what you really want. I would not have pronounced it Alice, but perhaps it is because I have seen it spelled Alyse before. I like the spelling Alyse because it is catchy and different. Sure some people might mispronounce it, but you might be surprise at how many people will mispronounce it spelled the other way as well.

 

If u want them both with A then I would go with Alyse its very pretty I also like Elise. I would pronounce Alyse and Elise the same

I have my miserable days, but I have 3 other children, one being 25 months old, and I homeschool. Therefore, I can't afford to stay miserable. I have to keep going. I didn't think I would last this long. I still cook meals, clean the house, and teach the kids. The only thing that I have not done as much this 9th month is be intimate with DH. He is quite understanding though. We had done well up until the 9th month.

Ava & Iris

Ava & Elise

I like Ava and Elise better than Ava and Iris (I don't really like the name Iris). And like everyone else, I'd go with Elise over Alyse because to me, Alyse is pronounced Alice, and you'd be setting your daughter up for having to correct people all the time about her name.

I have an adopted niece named Alyse and when I first saw her name (I saw it before I heard it) I thought it was an alternate spelling of Alice. And I knew an Elise years ago so that would have been more obvious to me.

FWIW, I would not pronounce Alyse as Alice, I would pronounce it ah-leece and Elise as eh-leece.


Out of your choices now I like Ava and Elise.

 

I'd go with Ava & Elise. I don't care for the name Iris at all. It is my mother-in-law's name & even though I love her dearly it is still not a name that we'd consider. It sounds harsh to me, esp. in contrast to a feminine name like Ava. This of course is just my opinion. What are you considering for middle names?

 

How about Elyse? I love the name and I also don't like matching initials, even. So many times we label our girls' things with initials and having them the same would be confusing.

 

Ava and Elise, although again, I'm partial! I also do like the spelling Elyse if you were looking for something different. (I am with summerfun on how I would pronounce the two names).

All that said, I don't dislike the name Iris, and I think Ava and Iris sound pretty together.

 

Hmmm..I am going to vote for Ava and Iris, I think Iris will be easier to yell from the front porch :lol:

 

I have always loved Alyce. (pronounced A-leece). We would probably shorten it to Ally a lot of the time though.

I also know a few Elises' and think that is nice too.

My husband also likes Alyce for one of our girls. I am undecided as to using it for a first or middle name though.

 

Elise. (Like I commented on in your other thread, I'm so jealous you get to name a baby Elise!!) And btw, I LOVE the way Ava and Elise flow when you say them. Very complimentary without being matchy-matchy (another reason I don't like Alyse).
