My daughter is 6 months old and now has a NASTY cold. Her nose is just a constant faucet, and it seems somewhat thick, if that makes sense. The poor girl can't breathe! Last night was torturous-as she would not/could not sleep in her crib(she's a tummy sleeper).

I went out and bought a humidifier(cool mist) for her room for tonight, as well as some plug in vapor thing. She ended up sleeping on me last night. I didn't sleep, but I think she did at least a little. Finally at 4am I was able to put her in her crib, where she stayed for an hour-so at least I got one solid hour of sleep! Even when she drinks her bottles, she's not drinking much because she can't breathe through her nose. She also had a fever last night and today as well.

I'm guessing there is nothing I can do but ride this out???? Her brothers are both sick as well-one had a fever of 104 today. I guess a call to the pedi's will be in order tomorrow...

If you had any tricks I could try tonight, it'd be greatly appreciated. DH goes back to work tomorrow, and I can't take care of three sick kids on no sleep!

 I'm so sorry she's not feeling well (and her brothers) and no one is getting any sleep.

Have you tried putting baby vapor rub on her? I know that opens up their noses. I give mine a bath with this vapor stuff in it and then put some on them. :good:

I hope you all get some rest tonight.

I have some of that for her brothers. I was wondering if she was old enough for it. I'm sure she will wake again at some point(she's so exhausted let's hope she doesn't) and I'll put some on her. Thanks!

Unfortunately... Im not sure how much help his will be...

When this comes up, I just ride it out. I figure they are sick and need a little more help. Depending on the child, some will go back to good sleeping when they are feeling better, some will need a little re-training.

Sorry, wish I could offer better advice. Hopefully this will be short!

Hot as they can stand (meaning warm) bath to drain nose. Vicks and I use WARM steam for this in a humidifier. It's steam that helps the nasal passages, not cold mist.

POOR YOU AND POOR EVERYONE! I feel horrible for you. You are SUPERMOMMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll pray for a speedy recovery.

When we all had the H1N1 here, I'd get both babies in the bathroom in bouncy seats or in our arms, shut the door, and turn on the shower HOT. We'd hang out in the bathroom for 10+ minutes and let them breath in all that hot steam, and then use saline nose drops and suck out all the gunk. It was amazing what hanging out in the steam did for them, their noses would start running, and all that congestion would loosen up to come out. They would be much more comfortable and then sleep a little better. We did that right before we tried to go to bed, then got them to sleep in their cribs, and it would give us a couple hours anyway of sleep! Good luck, I hope everyone is feeling better!
