I just went in for a vaginal ultrasound, I am 5 weeks 4 days, the Dr. saw 2 sacs one with a definate baby / yolk inside and the other one just had some faint echoing. The Dr said most likely the second one will progress and we will have twins, we go back in 2 weeks but I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else??? Thanks for your help!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! From what I have read on this board that is fairly common. I had an u/s at 7.5 weeks that showed 2 babies and 2 hb's. But one had a smaller sac so we have another u/s next week, at 11 weeks. It has been hard to wait this long but I am hopeful that both babies will be healthy. Good luck to you as well!!

Congrats to you! The next two weeks will make a HUGE difference in knowing how your pregnancy will progress, as seeing heartbeats REALLY decreases your chances of m/c or having a 'vanishing twin'. That being said, my first u/s we didn't even SEE the second sac and baby (I guess they were hiding)...so we were totally surprised we were having twins at our 7 week u/s. So, I'm evidence that ANYTHING can happen in those two weeks, lol!

Hello. Congrats on the twins! I've included links to the three ultrasounds we've had to date. The first one was at 5 weeks exactly and that's when we found out we were having twins. You can see the sac on the left has something in it but the sac on the right is empty. We went back at 7 weeks and there were two heartbeats and babies that were the same exact size. Then the last link is to 12w6d. Two healthy babies, just growing away. No one ever told me that one baby may not be viable or that the smaller sac might not make it but I certainly was worried aboutt the initial size discrepancy. Best of luck to you!

Right here - happened to us!

At 6 weeks, we had two sacs. One was empty. One had a baby with a heartbeat in it. Two weeks later that empty sac had a baby with a heartbeat in it. So be ready! :)

    Congrats!

Congrats on your pregnancy. Same song here...At 5w6d we saw 2 sacs, one w/ a HB. One week later, two little hearts beating away! Best wishes!

Thank you all so much for responding! I loed hearing all the positive stories and it puts me at ease a little bit now, knowing that this is normal and it has happened to others! I am looking forward to being the proud Mommy of twins and i just pray that everything goes smoothly from now till then! My husband and I tried for 4 years before having our first before we saw a fertility specialist, 3 IUI's later we were pregnant with our first and now have an amazing 19 month old girl! It took us 3 IUI's again this time and was thrilled to hear twins, I always wanted 3 kids and now hopefully my wish will come true!

Thank you all again so much, I really appreciate it, I am so happy I found this site! Enjoy your blessings and Happy Holidays to everyone!!!

You sound a lot like me - our first DS was conceived via IUI, as were these twins. It's so hard not to worry after all you go through to create these miracles... but enjoy it as much as you can. Congrats!

Wow, similar story here too. We tried for almost 4 years and got preggo with my ds through clomid, timed BDing and other meds. It took us another 18 months to get pregnant this time with IVF...we couldn't BELIEVE when we had twins...what a miracle!

6w1d we saw only one sac and heartbeat. Doctor wasn't looking for anything else as we hadn't used fertility drugs that cycle. 7w1d, 2 sacs, 2 heartbeats! (they turn 4 years old tomorrow)

Same exact thing happened to me also. I went back to fertility dr at 5 1/2 weeks and we saw one yolk sac and the other was too small to see if a yolk sac was present. I went back in exactly one week and we saw two heart beats!!! .....we had fraternal boys who couldnt be healthier! Good Luck!!!
