Hospital Bed rest

I'm 28 weeks and six days pregnant with fraternal twin girls. Since the 20th week I've been on strict bed rest for preterm contractions and shortened cervix. MFM put me on Procardia around the clock to help control the contractions. I was getting weekly cervix checks and my cervix went from 4.0, 3.2, 2.8, 2.4 and this past Tues it was a 1.5. I was then admitted to the hospital and put on a monitor for contractions. Come to find out my contractions were 2-4 minutes apart. The whole nine yards was done: I was put on Magnesium Sulfate, a brethine shot and steroid shots were given. By Thursday evening I was moved from Labor and delivery to Med/Ob. I'm no longer on the Mag and I was given one more brethine shot Thursday night. I'm now stable only taking procardia every six hours to keep my uterus from being so irritable. I'm praying I'll make it to 34 weeks. Everyday that passes I become a little bit more hopeful. Please pray for us.

Hang in there! I had contractions starting at 10 weeks! Of course they were very sporadic at that time, but by 16 weeks they were pretty regular. There are many other things MFM can try. I did Procardia, Terbutaline pills, Indocin pills, Mag, and was prob most successful with the Terbutaline pump in my leg. And after ALL OF THAT.... at 36w3d, I went up to the hospital because I felt that my discharge was looking a little watery... I had been leaking water for over a day not knowing it. Anyway...they had to actually use pitocin to make me go into labor!!! Gotta love Irony!

Oh, honey...hang in there. I was on BR from 24 weeks with a cervix down to 6 mm. I had all of the treatments you mentioned multiple times. It's so incredibly scary. I was an anxious mess.
After the BR, my cervix would stay around a 1.5 as long as I kept the pressure off. I was in and out of the hospital 4-5 different times.

28 weeks is considered viability. Every day you keep them inside they grow stronger and more ready for the world.

I was induced at 36 weeks for pre-e. My MFM never thought I would make it that far. They all thought I would deliver at 24 weeks. But it's possible to hang in there much longer. I wish you and your girls a long, healthy pregnancy. Beth

  3. Thank you for giving me much hope of having a good outcome with this pregnancy. You don't know how much it means to me that you were in a similar situation and had healthy babies in the end. I have much more confidence than I did before. God bless!

Hang in there. I spent 4 weeks on hospital bedrest (16 total weeks of bedrest) and from 24 weeks on my cervix was under 1cm. You can do it!! Bedrest is really hard but really, really worth it in the end.

Well, I certainly beat all of the odds! I was put on hospital bedrest at 27 weeks because my cervix was down to about 2mm and both of my babies were footling breech (very dangerous had my water broken). At any rate, my MFM and OB all thought I would have the babies within days of being admitted to the hospital. I was on procardia every 8 hours and the babies were monitored 3x/day and I was on a 24/7 contraction monitor. It was horrible being in the hospital b/c I am a SAHM to my 2.5 year old, BUT, it was the best thing that could ever have happened for me and my beautiful babies!

I was in the hospital for 7 weeks and 5 days and was finally released at 34w 6days. 2 days later, at 35w 1day, I went into labor!!! My babies were born via c-section and they were healthy and beautiful...4lbs 9oz and 4lbs 12oz!! The hospital stay felt like torture but fortunately I was able to get up to go to the bathroom and shower and at 32 weeks started walking around a little bit more in my room.

You can do it!!! Just stay positive, despite how tough it is! Feel free to contact me if you need to vent or whatever...I know how it is!

Stay strong! I'm in a similar situation. I am 29 weeks pregnant with a precious little boy & girl. I have been on hospital bedrest for 7 of the last 14 days. I got to go home for about a week, but had to come back to the hospital on Friday. I have marginal placenta previa & was bleeding/contracting. My cervix has been shortening, so I was on partial bedrest before then. They gave me a shot of Terbutaline to stop the contractions on Sunday. I feel so much better now. Today, I was given betamethasone & will have another injection of that tomorrow. As difficult as hospital bedrest is, I know it's the best option for me & the babies right now. As, I'm sure you are in the best place you can be. I'm so thankful to have the monitoring and care that comes with being on hospital bedrest. I'm definitely homesick, but the babies are worth it!!

I'm glad to hear that you're making progress. Keep baking those babies!!

  7. I'm 30 weeks and one day now, back at home and doing much better! My cervix is still about a 1.5, but my contractions are staying under control with Procardia every 6 hours. I'm hoping it will stay this way until the babies are full-term.
