My girls love to eat yogurt. I'm still feeding them the YoBaby yogurt. It's fine, but it's more expensive. Does anyone know when they are able to eat the YoKid yogurt or even just the normal adult yogurt? Thanks!

Well, I don't know if you want to hear this, but there's no reason to feed them baby yogurt at all -- any plain yogurt is fine. YoBaby is mostly marketing.

I used to get the unflavored kind and mix in a little applesauce, so they didn't get too much sugar. If you want organic yogurt, try Stonyfield Farms. Trader Joes has a lot of good yogurt options, too.

I started feeding mine regular yogurt around 15-16 months, mine also love the Yo Baby Meals which I buy when I have coupon or when they are on sale.

I never fed my guys baby yogurt; I started them on plain, organic whole milk yogurt at about 8 months. They still have it 3 times a day on most days (they're skinny so I'm trying to fatten them up). I add applesauce, pureed banana/avocado, strawberry preserves; anything that will make it tasty and give them some nutrients. I've even added pureed spinach to the fruit, and they loved it!

If you buy Stonyfield whole milk yogurt, you can collect the codes on the foil inserts and redeem them for stuff. A quart gets you 4 points; 25 points gets you a free quart. Not a bad deal!

I've always bought organic yogurt but don't care if it's for adults or not. The main thing with baby yogurt is that it's whole milk, when most other favored yogurts are low fat, so if they don't drink much whole milk you might want to keep giving baby or whole milk yogurt for a while longer.

The main issue really with most other yogurts is that they're full of artificial stuff or high fructose corn syrup. Mine haven't eaten yogurt in months as they can't feed themselves well with a spoon and I don't want to deal with the mess (and they won't let me feed them) but they drink low fat yogurt smoothies pretty often.

Mine have had regular yogurt [yoplait] since they were about 10 mos old. We've actually never tried the baby yogurt. Like PP's, I think you would be alright switching to the regular kind. Especially since it is quite cheaper!

Mine are still on yobaby yogurts, but mostly because the other stuff has the high fructose corn syrup. The organic yogurts like Stonyfield are good, and we'll be moving to those soon. There are a few whole milk fruit flavors that should do just fine.

I do the same thing as Valerie and Becca. I have always bought plain whole milk yogurt. I buy La Yogurt brand since it's much cheaper than Stonyfield Farms--regularly $2.89 on sale $1.99. I mix fruits and baby cereal into it.

I'd save some money and ditch the baby yogurt--it's pretty much a rip off, and it's got a lot of sugar in it.

Baby yogurt? I didn't even know it existed :unknw: I just buy plain yogurt like pp mentioned, and add fruit. I have been doing that since 8 months and they are almost 14 months. Never had a prob and they love it.

I get the whole-milk organic yogurt in the quart containers like the pp said. The main brand we have around here is Stonyfield, and they are doing that promotion with the codes on the foil lids for a while, so I'll be excited to get a free one soon. I do the plain and just add it to things. they love it. Even the vanilla flavor has almost double the sugar in it, so I just stick to plain. I actually haven't been able to find full fat yogurt that is cheaper than the $3.60/quart ... I don't think the store brand has full fat, its just low or fat free. anyway, I never did get the yobaby ones unless we were traveling and then it was more convenient.

Me too. I buy whole fat yogurts as most available are low fat ones.

They can eat regular yogurt BUT it isn't as healthy for them. Their Dr. advised us all of the sugar in it may lead to intestinal upsets.

It really depends on the yogurt. Yobaby plain yogurt has 6 grams of sugar per 4oz container. Stonyfield plain yogurt has 13 grams of sugar per 8oz serving. So roughly equal. You just need to read the nutrition labels carefully if you're concerned about sugar content.

I've never seen it in the store, but it was on their website, so I thought I'd compare it with their regular yogurt to get "apples for apples".

I think flavored Yobaby has less sugar than regular flavored yogurts (a lot of which are more like dessert), but I'd need to look at the labels to be sure. (I'm an obsessive label-reader, can you tell? ;) ) What weirds me out is that the plain Stonyfield yogurt has 13 grams of sugar, but the ingredients list doesn't mention any added sugar. It must be all lactose (milk sugar) rather than any added glucose, sucrose, dextrose or any other -ose.

Yeah, I can't imagine most kids would like that. Talk about SOWAH!! :p I just add unsweetened applesauce, bananas, strawberries, etc. to make it tasty.

Thanks for all your help/advice, ladies. I think the next time we go grocery shopping we will make the switch. I'm also taking them to the doctor tomorrow for their 15 month checkup so I'll ask her about it.

I start out with Yoplait for kids (dora/diego). I like the thickness to it. Easier to spoon feed. I see no reason for anything 'richer.'
