Does anyone use a splat mat to protect your floors and make cleaning easier? Does it help? If so, which kind do you use?

We have wood floors and they are really taking a beating with stuck on food.

I was thinking about getting such a thing too!

Our dogs are better than a splat mat.

    :rotflmbo: So true!

If your floor is not holding up well, I would def get something. We have an old carpet under our table (and area where high chairs were) and just steam clean it every now and again. One other thing to be cautious of is your wall behind the high chairs. I can't tell you how many milk and food splatters happened! We don't have a "wipe off" type of paint so parts of it are stained.

Somehow I doubt that DH will buy the argument that we need to get a dog. :D

I am having trouble with the wall too. I think I'll get a big painting drop cloth.

Yes, I was thinking cloth would be good because it shouldn't leave marks on the floor like other material might. Plus, it would be washable in the washer. We have a wall and glass behind our high chairs. I clean it and the next day it already has marks on it.

We already have the dog, but she won't eat little pieces of food or most fruits/veggies.

I never had one, but I probably should have. I'm sure it would have made my life much easier. My floor is wood too & I was washing it on hands & knees a couple of times a day just to keep it looking somewhat good.

I bought these plastic baby einstein mats. Here's a link.

I live in an apt., and my table is in our carpeted living room. We had to do something; this helps, but would be better on wood or some flatter surface. I think for this surface, I would need to buy those clear mats you see in offices that people put under their chairs. I've seen them at Staples, but they are pricy. I got those baby einstein mats for free with my bank points.
