i put my LO down about 40 mins ago to nap....we always nap at that time. one LO is sleeping now and the other?!?!? FLAILING HIS ARMS, crying, moaning, etc. i pulled him out and put him in his swing and he's not sleeping. he doesnt nap in his swing but i was afraid if i left him in his crib, he would wake his brother.
he did the same thing last night. i drove him to the supermarket with me and he didnt sleep. he hasn't really napped in like 2 days, lol. he slept FINE last night but i dont know what to do about napping.

he also had a little mucous in his stool this morning. his stool was yellowy and i saw some mucous. could he be teething? i dont feel anything in his gums or see that they are swollen, either.

ETA: we've been introducing milk-based formula; 1/2 soy and 1/2 milk based.

It could be the change in formula or it could be teething or just a fluke. Sometimes it's so hard to tell. At 6 months maybe his needs are just changing but he can't quite figure out what he needs and when - like a nap. I bet it will resolved itself soon, but for the time being I would keep his brother on the normal schedule and then try to put him down at regular time too but if it doesn't work try again every 30 minutes thereafter until he goes down. They may wind up not sleeping at the same time but at least he too will get a nap. And just to let you know, my lo's teeth for about 3 weeks before their teeth finally poke through the gums. At first there is nothing there and then about a week later, I'll feel or see something and then at the end of the 3 weeks it's usually cut through. So it could definitely be the start of teething even though you can't actually see a tooth. I hope he naps soon!

Teething ALWAYS interupts my kids' sleep. Try a little tylenol about 20 minutes before the nap.

Sleep disturbances seem to come & go all through the first year. It could be teething, new milestones they are about to reach, just some weird phase he's going through, or it could be the new formula. If the mucous in the stool continues, I would definitely start to think it might be the new formula. Otherwise, I would just keep putting him down for his nap at the normal time & hope he eventually gets through this phase & starts sleeping again.

I'm not sure why they are not napping. It's hard to say.

At 6 months we did CIO for naps. My LOs would fight soothing because they were so overtired. I was so frustrated because I spent the whole day attempting naps and they would almost always fight me. You may want to consider CIO if you rule out medical issues and the problem persists.

i just laid him down in his crib...he fell asleep drinking his late morning bottle.
he was sleeping when i laid him down and now hes screaming his head off. i tried a little tylenol. i think i may have to do CIO. i just hope he's ok. and my other LO...i dont want to disturb him while he's trying to sleep! this is craziness!!! we have such a nice system going and then he hasn't been able to sleep in 2 days. :(

That could be formula change-related. Hannah had mucusy poop when she was not tolerating her formula well.

Mucous in the stool can be a sign of a milk protein allergy. He is really showing a lot of signs. I would switch to a hypoallergenic formula for a couple of weeks and see if you can rule it out.

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_allergy

"Milk protein intolerance (MPI) is delayed reaction to a food protein that is normally harmless to the non-allergic, non-intolerant individual. Milk protein intolerance produces a non-IgE antibody and is not detected by allergy blood tests. Milk protein intolerance produces a range of symptoms very similar to milk allergy symptoms, but can also include blood and/or mucus in the stool. Treatment for milk protein intolerance is the same as for milk allergy. Milk protein intolerance is also referred to as milk soy protein intolerance (MSPI)."

he was fine on his soy formula; then i read everything about the soy and it made me nervous and want to switch to a milk-based formula.
the other LO is tolerating the milk fine. do you think the allergy could disrupt his sleep?

ETA - how do they test to see if its in fact a milk protein allergy. should i call the ped? do you think hes going to think im a moron for changing his formula without their 'consent?' lol?

Not every baby that has a milk allergy has problems with soy. It could be that yours is one of those babies. Yes, I think the allergy can disrupt their sleep just like reflux can. For us they tested their stool. Derek had some microscopic blood that I could not see and he definitely had some mucous on occasion.

would i just drop off a diaper? do you think i should call and explain everything?
i've never called the pedi for a 'sick' reason.

ETA - i let him CIO for 5 mins and he fell asleep. that was 10 mins ago. he is no screaming his head off again.

ALSO if he had a milk allergy wouldn't he have problems with my BM?

Could you breastfeed and/or pump for your baby with the potential milk allergy? The other baby could have the cow's milk since he tolerates it well.

if he did fine with my BM could he have a dariy/milk protein problem? i dont think im understanding bc if he tolerated my BM well, i assumed dairy was ok.
