    Hello friends,
Went in for a biophysical profile today, thought I'd be in and out as usual. Ended up being there for hours! My cervix has gone from 4.8cm to 3.8cm to 2.5cm(today) over the last month. I was sent for NST and it showed I was having contractions. I'd noticed I was getting out of breath and uncomfortably tight but I had thought it was just the babies moving around in limited space, turned out those were contractions. I was given a terbutaline shot and the 1st steroid shot for babies lungs, will get the 2nd tomorrow morning. I've also been given a script for procardia. I'm now on bed rest. FFN test today was negative.
I've been hoping and praying for full term babies and now I'm freaked out!! Please has anyone gone through this and everything turned out just fine? Really hoping to avoid the NICU if possible. Someone say I'm fretting over nothing please...

    P.S At 29 weeks they were 3lb 1oz and 2lb 15oz.
NST showed their heart rates are fine.

At 28wks my cervix was .5cm and funneling and I was 2cm dilated and 80%effaced. I went on bedrest and held out for 6 more weeks! I think if you are on bedrest chances of going full term are looking good. Just keep the fluids up, the legs up, and your spirit up!! I know its hard....you can do this!!!!

I'm sorry you're going through this! I had PTL with my singleton pregnancy. At 24 weeks, I found out I was contracting every 2 minutes! Luckily, my labor was able to be stopped with hospitlization, at-home bedrest, and meds. I made it to 36 weeks! I also had steriod shots to develop the lungs...which is a VERY good thing that you're getting them, btw. I always had neg FFN tests each time I was hospitalized...that is a VERY good sign. Just keep your feet up and keep yourself as hydrated as you can. I started out on Procardia, but had breakthrough contrax with it, so I ended up with a terbutaline pump in my leg and had at-home uterine monitoring. GL!

Wow, making it 6 more weeks would be truly awesome. I think my hormones have kicked into high gear 'cause I feel jittery/unstable. Thanks for support

I had the Procardia and it made me feel jittery and like I was on speed...it could be that. I stopped taking it but I wasn't having contractions either. Hope you feel better! Keep those feet up!

Thanks evemomma, today's news on top of being exhausted and uncomfortable really threw me for a loop. I'm really glad to see there is hope and I will hold on to that thought. I have been in panic mode which has accomplished nothing but hysterical tears, an awful headache and a frustrated husband.

I know that panic well. I had it when I almost gave birth at 24 weeks (waaaaay too early!), and had it again when I started bleeding uncontrollably at 8.5 weeks with this pregnancy (I had a subchorionic hematoma). I think with all of my pregnancy challenges, I've had to let myself panic a little each time and then sort of 'regroup'. The best news is you are already well within the range of good viability for your twins!!!! Every little bit more of time you make it now is just cutting the time off that they will need in the NICU. You just making it to get both of your steriod shots is going to be AWESOME for your babies. Hang in there!

    Hang in there,
It's an anxious time when you have PTL. Scary! I had a 6 mm cervix at 24 weeks. I was having contractions and there was not much left to keep them in. I went on procardia and strict BR. I made it to 36 weeks, It was a tough pregnancy, but it's certainly possible to make it much farther. I'm glad you've made it this far. Hopefully your cervix will stabilize now. Mine moved back to 1.5 cm after I was on BR for a few weeks. You can do it!!

 Momma!! I am sorry that you are having to go through that, it is definitely scary! First, that is great news that your fFN test was negative!! Also, I am so happy that you got the steroid shots, I strongly believe that those helped my girls tremendously!!

Try to keep your head up! I know its hard not to worry! Make sure you are following your Dr's orders, and drinking LOTS of water! Best of luck to you!

Thank you everyone for the encouraging words and support :)
Now that I've given the news a chance to "settle", I realize that things are not as ominous as my panic stricken mind tried to make it. I just thought of that "sunscreen" song and the line "Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
    on some idle Tuesday."

:) I won't lie and say that I'm not worried now, still I'm thankful to have made it this long before problems came my way. I will follow doc's orders, sweep the dust off my playstation, let my dear husband take care of our toddler, let said toddler watch all the sesame street/curious george he wants and leave the rest to God.

At 30 weeks my cervix shortened from 4cm to 2.3... I got the shots and cut back dramatically on activity. I also took calcium & magnesium supplements (they are supposed to keep your uterus from contracting).... & made it to 37weeks, 5days- 2 days shy of my C-Section date. :youcandoit:

That's encouraging! They didn't put you on bedrest at that point? Mine went from 4.1 to 2.7 now and nobody has said anything about it!

Grr, no. My 'doctors' (term used loosely) thought you could not do bed rest at home. So if I truly needed it, I'd be sent to the hospital for bed rest. Oh, they said it didn't work, anyway; as well. My point was if it doesn't work, why do it at the hospital? If they say don't get up, I would not have. They did not know me very well... I basically put myself on modified bed rest- get up & bathe, eat, lay down for no less than 1.5 hours, get up, get down again. I'd time the next time I'd allow myself to get up (other than to pee)... Other than that, they weren't too worried b/c I'd had the shots for the lungs, so 'it'd be ok if they were born'. Well, yes, except they do better at 32 weeks inside rather than out! :headbang: (I did not care for my docs that much...)

How are you holding up? I had PTL at 30 weeks (the day I commented on this post), spent 5 days in the hospital and have been on bed rest and Procardia since. I was 1 cm dialated and 80% effaced when discharged. Those first few weeks have left scars on my heart. I was terrified!!

I'll be 35 weeks tomorrow and feel like this past month has dragged because of my anxiety about delivering early. Now I am feeling better but scared of birth. And I am so uncomfortable that I cry after just 2 miles in the car going to the doctor!

I hope you are feeling better!!

    Hi SnowPumpkin,
I'm still here! Made it to 36 weeks now, I agree about the anxiety over the last few weeks.. it's been killer. Hoping to make it till after the 1st (greedy, I know). I honestly think this pregnancy has been the hardest thing I've had to do in my life so far and that's coming from a boarding school product who's also survived army time!
I share your fear about the birth as well, my baby B has managed to flip from vertex to breech oblique over the last week and though the ob says she's still okay with a vaginal birth, she admitted it has been forever since she's done a breech extraction. So now I worry about ending up with a c-section after I push baby A out, mostly because I won't have any help when I bring the babies home.
As of today I am 1cm dilated and 50% effaced, babies did good during NST, while I had multiple contractions. Fundal height was 44cm! Doc didn't say anything about halting procardia just yet, I plan to do that next week regardless.
At 35 weeks baby A was 6lbs 5oz and baby B was 5lbs 14oz. Get my next growth u/s next week. We're going to make it mama :)
    How are yours looking?

Mine are still both head down although I've wanted a c-section all along. I stop my Procardia at 36 weeks.

Both passed an NST yesterday and I have an ultrasound on Monday. At 31+5 weeks they where 3.15 and 3.11. I am hoping they are at least 5 lbs on Monday at 35+4 weeks. Your weights are great!

Two more weeks would be great but I am so ready to be done. :( I don't ever want to carry twins again. My sister just had her first baby on Sunday and I'm scared that he will put me into labor if I get near him!

Good news is 35 weeks is the cutoff for automatic NICU time at my hospital. 35 weeks and over, it depends on the baby.
